What do you think of this?
Hi all,
We are running our hypermiling tool on Kickstarter at the moment. Our ambition is to make hypermiling attractive for the average driver. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...-on-the-street Check it out, would love to know what you think. Cheers, Danny |
Its like an OBD2 TPS idiot light??
|
Prefer to think of it as intelligent driver feedback... Didn't you see the stuff on energy tracking? It's super cool.
|
I already have an UltraGauge. Thanks, though.
|
They should give me one to try for thirty days if they want my opinion
Doubt that it would help me save any more gas than my on-board instrumentation. There's your challenge GoFar, whatcha got? |
Hi Fat Charlie, Thanks for your feedback, very much appreciated. Is there anything you like about GoFar?
|
Hi cowmeat, anything you like about GoFar though?
|
Its light is a pretty shade of blue that looks like it would match my car's OE display. It has the additional advantages of being more expensive than my UltraGauge and requiring me to use my phone. Torque was great in that it was pretty and required me to use my phone, but it wasn't expensive. You've managed to hit all three!
|
Notice that they aren't "expected" to ship until December. And look at the money they are raising. And what does this accomplish that a vacuum gauge carefully used cannot do? Flashing lights don't do much for me. That's why I like a voltmeter rather than a "gen" light.
And I believe it is OBDII, not OBD11 (eleven); but perhaps I am wrong about all of this. Certainly a lot of hooplah! |
I think things got off on the wrong foot when a couple lines in I'm reading "go far: the first gadget that improves you're driving"
And I'm thinking... http://www.smartcarofamerica.com/gal...p?imageid=9415 |
New hondas use this same technology on the newer hybrids. The whole back light will change color depending on driving style.
|
2000mc- Nice, but yours doesn't have LEDs or monopolize your phone. I'll bet it doesn't cost much either, and is available before December.
It just doesn't compare, even if it may have a better claim to being "first." |
I appreciate what they're trying to do, but I have concerns. First, as has been pointed out, the claim that this is "the first gadget that improves your driving" is a flat-out lie. From vacuum gauges to Torque to the Scangauge, there are a plethora of devices available to improve drivers' efficiency.
Second, in trying to promote your product on this website, I think the developers will run into a lot of pushback because the GoFar simply does not provide any detailed feedback. I can use my Scangauge to monitor throttle position sensor, coolant temperature, engine rpm, gallons consumed per hour, instant mpg, average mpg...among hundreds of other parameters. I won't replace that with what is, essentially, a glorified idiot light, and I don't think many here would. Thirdly, I think whoever wrote the promotional material for the Kickstarter campaign is overthinking things. We don't need gyroscopes to measure forces in the car when we can already get the information we need to track efficiency from the OBD systems. They can claim to track things like aerodynamic drag and friction, but in reality they aren't--anymore than the car already does when it spits out a measure of fuel consumption. And bold headlines claiming this device will "KEEP YOUR LOVED ONES SAFER" are specious at best. I think they'll have a few takers when (if) this goes on sale, but I'll pass. |
It isn't even the first one that's colored blue.

is it running Android on the device itself?

Send me a free one and I'll check it out* *on my wife's car |
sorry buddy too expensive for what you get out if it.
|
I'd like to have one AND be able to simultaneously run the ScanGauge as well. I want AS MUCH information as possible, while I'm driving and also data that I could review on the computer later.
I think it's a very cool idea for the masses. For us obsessive ecomodder types... probably not going to catch on. |
