What else could I use an Insight battery for?
 

I am interested in investing in some solar power.

I have a nice deep cycle battery that is pretty old, but may be picking up another Insight battery.

And putting the battery under a table, like this:

But wood, and that lower area concealed. The inverter would be attached to a leg, and poking up through a hole cut through the top, so the outlets are flush . There would be some space for ventilation, before others chime in, I just can't let my cats or dog connect the poles.

Anyway, that is my general plan. But I was thinking about using an Insight battery as a future option, or for another project. I understand it doesn't just connect the way a normal battery does, and more work may need to be done, but I was just brainstorming and was looking forward to hearing others views, ideas, and input.

I was just hoping some experts here would chime in.

One Insight battery at 936 amp hours has about the same capacity as a single large deep cycle battery. Only the Insight battery runs at 144 volts with 6.5ah, instead of 12 volts with 80ah. Which also makes it very dangerous to be used to used in a table. It'll kill you, while a 12 volt battery won't, and a dozen 12 volt batteries strung up as 12 volts and 1,000ah might just give you a nasty shock.

There is no real cost savings benefit. The same price in deep cycle lead acid batteries will give you 10x or more useable capacity. And it would be easier to find a (grid tie inverter?) in 12, 24, or 48 volts.

So it'd be a waste of time! Thank you for the insight (no pun intended).

I agree, finding a 144v inverter is going to be hard, connecting everything in such a way as it doesn't kill anyone is also going to be hard, you would be better off selling the insight battery and buying more common parts, you would also come out cash ahead.

you could split the pack into thirds. run three parrellel 48 volt packs and have a good clean small setup. 48 volt inverters are comon, it would be nice to have a portable 120v system for my sailboat or camper enough to run a fan and a desclamp, charge the laptop and phone, the less time spent with an engine running the happier I am

you could make a nice electric bike/small e-cycle with that pack if the shape can be changed.

You can try a 12 volt 6ah car battery replacement.

Sounds like you are putting the cart before the horse. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

My trials in solar involved a 100 watt panel and a 300 watt grid tie inverter and I used our home as a "storage" means. Sounds like your deep cycle battery could use a maintenance charge and your insight battery is good for rapid charge/discharge like in an ev project, electric bike, golf cart, etc that has regen braking.

Worse to worse, try the deep cycle and take apart the ima battery and make a 12 volt unit to use.

A PWM isnt as good as a mppt charge controller, but its second best.
