What mpg meter would work with a 1989 chevy celebrity?

I joined the forum due to finding the following link where someone got 35.33 mpg with this model of car.

I used to keep track of mileage and only got around 22 mpg, so this is very impressive to me. I pay cash for gas and it would be a hassle to fill the tank every time, but I'd love to get a mpg meter and get the mpg above 30.

I don't think that any vehicles prior to 1996 have the OBD II data plug that you need for an MPG meter?

You can check any threads by the owner of that car:

...and see what mods they have done and/or how they drive to get the MPG.

Tank by tank MPG is the most accurate way to go, and you can check the calibration of your odometer, too.

Oh? Why is that? I was under the impression that tank to tank was not accurate at all, because the tank fills to a different level each time. When I used to fill and write results meticulously, I'd get 18 one time and 26 another, with the same type of driving. That was one reason that I stopped recording the mileage.

As long as its fuel injected you can use a MPGuino.

The mpguino looks interesting, but I'm not confident of being able to install it.

There's only four wires.

Positive

Negative

VSS - vehicle speed sensor (speedometer)

Injector signial

It's not hard to install and works great...;)

Don't you have to put a case on it, and program your car's information?

Does it have instructions on how & where the wires are connected?
