What parameters to observe in a Turbo Diesel?
 

Hello everyone, long time no visit. Lots happened, not car related, but the events kept me out of the garage.

For my Jeep (2.7 common-rail diesel) I have a pretty solid scan tool (DRB3 clone on Android, specific for my car), which can show very detailed engine parameters. I can even see the actual fuel injection quantity commanded by the ECU. And the tool does some nice data logging.

Usually I tested the aero mods on long high-way trips and watching the displayed instant MPG. Displayed MPG does not have enough resolution.

Now with the scan tool I want to do some testing. What parameters should I watch for except for the fuel injection quantity? Boost? Mass air flow?
I haven't seen the instant MPG through the menus ... yet.
