What rig is best for me

Hi everyone, currently trying to sell my 13’ Equinox LS and get an efficient set of wheels but can’t decide if I should go the Prius route or branch out. I’m a Toyota guy (worked for them for 7.5 years and own 2 others) but I’m concerned with buying a Prius and having to change the battery immediately. Price point on them (used) is already steep compared to other fuel efficient vehicles in my area and then on top of that you have to wonder how much longer the battery has. Would really rather have a standard trans. My commute is 90 miles round trip, rolling hills, 84 miles on the Highway. Thanks all.

Outside of commuting, what are other requirements for the car?

I loved the 2012 Prius plug-in I had. It used a Lithium Ion battery instead of the NiMH in the standard Prius, which I assume will last a lot longer. It would be a fantastic car for high speed and that longer distance.

Starting with gen 4, I believe Toyota stopped using NiMH batteries and went lithium ion. Again, my assumption is this will last longer.

Gen 5 is in dealerships January supposedly. Might cause a flood of gen 4 to hit the market as people upgrade to a 200+ horsepower Prius.

I'd be looking at an EV for a commute like that, and I had access to charging at work or home. For me, it's 3 cents per mile for electricity, and about 7 cents per mile for gasoline in a Prius, and about 12 cents in a normal car that gets 30 MPG.

Looks like the used Ev’s in my area are way out of my price range. I’m hoping to get about 5 out of our equinox and put that and maybe 1-3k more in on something efficient. Other requirements, all I could think would be possibly being able to fit a car seat (baby will be here in Feb, god willing) No charging available at work unfortunately.
