I got bored by this one with it's three-minute commercial, but it has Auto Expert right in the title.

I like the cost-per-mile, but I don't know if the figures were normalized for tire size (and surely assumed four tires in all. ).

Back in my Beetle era, I ran staggered sizes (145 and 165/15s) for the weight bias, and fine tuned with staggered tire pressure.

I watched both videos.


The first one was a lot of talking, but not a lot of good info. It was mostly an advertisement for flashlights.

The second was clearly AI generated and suffered from the usual AI problem - made up stuff that sounds legit. For example: 7 belt layers? Read your sidewall. Normal steel belted radial tires use 2 steel belts. There might be cap plies, but anyone who works in the industry knows cap plies are not belt layers - and at most you'll have 3 cap plies for a 180 mph tire, not an all terrain they were talking about.

And all these tire experts? Why don't they live in places where the tire manufacturers are- Boston, Seattle? Why not Akron, or Greenville?

I'd been thinking putting tires on the Superbeetle (currently 165-50/15 front / 165/15 rear).This afternoon it looks like Michelin XAS would be a good fit (155/15 front / 180-15 rear). White walls (flanc blanc) on the 180s only; that would be sweet otherwise.

I can understand not naming Greenville because the inference is quite clear, but even if they were to disguise the place? Why mention it at all? I am of the opinion that they made it up and they are trying to make look legitimate.

It seems every week a new tire line comes out. There are so many, I can't keep up, so I don't even try.

Besides, my expertise is more in the area of what makes them them work and what makes them fail, rather than their relative position to each other.

Edit: I looked the tire up and realized it's a classic version of an early production item. That makes it even more difficult, as modern tread componds are sooooo much better than the original.
