Whats wrong w/ my Metro brakes?

Got a nice used Metro but the brakes completely suck. I see that theres still a lot of brake pad left as the previous owner said he just changed it. But a closer look I see a lot of rust on the rotors!
I'm talking about the part where it makes contact with the brake pad, there should be no rust there after driving it around for hour.

Now I'm thinking to bleed the brakes, probably the old fluid has been in there since 94:cool: any other suggestions? I bought new rotors and pads already don't want to install if thats not the problem.

thanks

Try to bleed them but I'm guessing the caliper is seized up. Try bleeding first but it might need a new or 2 new calipers.

Sometimes people say "I just replace them" because they tend to go by miles not actual time. "Oh yeah, I just replaced them" When in reality it was 2 years ago but only about 1100 miles ago.

Check the back side of the rotor to see if it is rusted. If it is clean then the slider pins are stuck and the caliper can't move. If both sides are rusted then it is a stuck caliper. The slider pins can be taken apart and sanded clean then re-greased to make them slide nice and easy. The caliper is usually harder to get free and most people just replace them.

While you are at it check the back drums and make sure they spin free like a bicycle tire and take a long time to stop.

Don't those older Metro cars have solid disc rotors instead of vented ones like the newer ones? I think you can upgrade those brakes to the newer style if I am not mistaken. Or maybe convertible models had them. Not sure, but yeah.

thanks I'll take a look and see what I find.
