What's your longest eoc?

I'm new to eoc but I've been reading around about it for a while. Just wondering what everyone's farthest eoc has been and from what mph down to what mph? I went 1.2 miles today and I started at 45 mph with a couple of slight inclines then a corner that dropped a little bit then a straight away. I was at 25 mph when I had to stop for a red light. I know its nothing much but I'm just getting started. No mods at all.

LeZX2 05-08-2013 10:29 PM

I dont know the distance, but on friday i got an eoc of about 3 mins coming into the valley starting at 65 mph, maxing at 75 mph, and ending at ~50 mph.
It was satisfying:D

Is an EOC like a FAS? :turtle:

Yes its the same I believe. FAS on cleanmpg and EOC on ecomodder.

I did 12 miles once coming down a mountain pass. Had to use lots of ebrake to keep my speed reasonable. That turned out to be my best tank ever.

There's this really awesome down-slope on I-5, on my way to my girlfriend's house (until we both move next month and I don't have to drive to see her :P ).
If you turn off the engine on the crest at 55, you can coast it through ~68ish, slowing to ~47, and continuing down the remainder at 51-52, for a grand total of 1.8 miles with the engine off.

It's really REALLY hard to do this with other traffic, lots of lane switching to pass people on the fast parts, and getting back over for the slow ones. It's also a bit nerve-wracking to break the speed limit by close to 15. Generally speaking, I end up bump-starting a couple times to keep closer to 55MPH on the low end and keeping in gear to slow me on the fast parts...
But yesterday I did the whole shebang. Took my trip from 43 to 52.

Sean.Heihn 05-09-2013 05:44 AM

God, you said I-5 and I thought of I-5 down near Camp Pendleton in Cali, back when I was stationed on base, and just shuddered thinking of coasting with the engine off there. Then I noticed you were in Oregon.

2.5 miles on the M25 between junctions 8 and 7, approaching Gatwick Airport.

elhigh 05-09-2013 09:38 AM

Once in a while, pretty long:

There's a bit heading south on I-75 in Tennessee, as you're approaching Caryville / Jacksboro, where you can turn the engine off and go for about 2.5 - 3 miles. If your aero is right and you're not dragging any brakes, you can pick up quite a bit of speed. My truck with no aero mods will slowly climb up to about 70mph and hold there.

I don't make that run very often, though. I'm usually lucky to get more than a quarter-mile of silent gliding, but there's a run heading northbound on I-75 where I can usually come close to a full mile.

AntiochOG 05-09-2013 10:13 AM

Just did 3 miles of EOC last night on a long downhill freeway stretch. Had another that was around 2.

PaleMelanesian 05-09-2013 03:20 PM

3500 ft drop over 13 miles. I-80 down from the mountains into Salt Lake City. Curvy canyon road, but built to interstate specs so the curves were wide and not too sharp. 2 AM so traffic was almost zero. Speed got slightly above the limit, but no more than you'll find every day on most highways.

Daily I have a 1-mile coast if lights and traffic cooperate.

Here's another one I've done, 2000 ft drop over 12 miles. Cabbage Hill in Oregon.

3 Miles through 10 stoplights. South Lamar, from the Golden Corral @ Panther Trail all the way across Town Lake and down the loop to 1st St.

I used to do it on a regular basis. I know they re-timed one of the lights (@ Barton Springs Rd.) and I think they re-timed a couple others, too. Haven't made it in almost a year :(

trooper Tdiesel 05-09-2013 06:18 PM

back roads no traffic
2.5 miles ranging from 10 to 45 mph
winter time the low end is 10mph summer its 20 mph
the dot is the slow spot.

Meissner Rd to Meissner Rd - Google Maps

i estimate that it takes 10sec of EOC to = running for my auto

tjbell 05-09-2013 06:51 PM

2.4 miles down this back road on the way to an old job, LOVED commuting there haha

campisi 05-09-2013 08:41 PM

I have a section of my daily commute on the way home that can be as much as 1.1 mile if traffic is 'right'. Top of an overpass, cut the engine at 60mph at the top then coast down to my exit, spin around the cloverleaf and coast up to the first traffic light. If I'm really lucky I can hit the light green, do a bump start and never even hit the brakes or the gas! Great feeling when everything happens exactly right.

Afton mountain between Charlottesville and Waynesboro, probably 3000 foot drop in 5-6 miles maybe more. The grade was so steep there before they built I64 I had to downshift my 63 Valiant to 2nd gear because it did not have enough power to go 45 in high gear with a 101 HP slant 6. That was 1967.
In my VX coming back from Blacksburg I was drafting a big rig at 85 MPH and actually had to put it in 5th gear, then 4th gear to keep from being sucked into the trailer, at 85 MPH. That coast was 3 miles +.

I-90

About 3.0 miles. You get on the on-ramp, get up to 35ish, and coast. I don't EOC, but in neutral, it'll hold 70ish. At the end there, it comes up a little bit, then back down to the merger of the highways, overall about 4.5 miles with maybe 15 seconds of accel.

To the north going across the top of the park, there is another road that has a significant drop. However, the end is a blind corner with an immediate stop sign. Too bad!

PressEnter[] 05-11-2013 09:10 AM

There are several back roads where I can coast for 1-1.5 miles, but the hills around here are too "rolling" for really long coasts.

Fat Charlie 05-13-2013 11:07 AM

2.5 miles.

Xist 05-13-2013 01:34 PM

The only hills that I drive are too and from my parents' house and they would be too steep to kill the engine if I did not have an automatic. I spend much of my time in-gear and sometimes need to downshift.

All of them include curves, too, and I do not know if I would want to try without power steering.

radioranger 05-13-2013 01:46 PM

couple of 2 mile stretches and one goes about 2.9 miles, late last tuesday on the way home coasted a total of 7 miles out of 10 left the engine on though just coasted into nuetral

darcane 05-13-2013 06:23 PM

About 7 miles coming down the Blue Mountains into Pendelton, OR. I did spin the engine over a few times to build up some vacuum, cause I did NOT want any issues with the brakes.

Quezacotl 05-14-2013 08:51 AM

Maybe around 20-30km, in Norway mountains :D Had to start the car occasionally because braking pressure went out fast.

I had to do some pulsing, but this was mostly EOC. 31.4 miles from Tejon Pass to Valencia on southbound I-5 (the Grapevine) north of Los Angeles.

Here's another. California Hwy 58 from Tehachapi Pass toward Bakersfield.

On I-64 east bound around mile marker 100, on the down side of Afton mountiain in Virginia I have been able to engauge the mexican over drive for about 6 or 7 miles, hitting speeds over 75mph.

backsidesnap 05-22-2013 12:08 PM

on the way to vegas there was a spot that the engine was off for about 8.5 miles

Jakins 05-23-2013 04:20 PM

i did one in town once and got like 140 mpg. probably like 4 or 5 miles.

aktacoma 05-28-2013 04:08 AM

I EOC for 2.7 miles and it would have been longer if I wouldnt have had to deal with idiots in my way...

isnt that always the case though??

SentraSE-R 05-28-2013 03:51 PM

I just did an 8.8 mile coast w/o touching the gas on my wife's AT 2012 Hyundai Elantra on southbound I-405 from the top of Mulholland Pass into Santa Monica. The SG registered 259 mpg for the 8.8 miles. I fed it some gas to keep my speed above 55 mph, and dropped to 129 mpg at 11.8 miles.
