Wheel and tire question
What would be the lighter/better setup for FE...a tall tire on a 13" wheel or a short tire on a 15" wheel? Also, is there any brand or kind of tire that is lighter than others? Just wondering what to keep an eye out for.

might could do some calculations on combined weight of the tire/ rim combinations. Generally, a 15" rim and tire will weight less than a 13" rim and tire. Of course, generally a modern 15" rim will be aluminum alloy and most every 13" rim is steel, so immediate weight savings there. You should have an easier time finding 15" tires compared to 13" tires, as the 15" and bigger sized tires are becoming more common. I had a very hard time finding a 14" tire for my Escort a while back, and ended up paying a bit of a premium once I found some.
For a cheapskate like me (I'll buy used tires unless I have money for new tires--you can sometimes get really decent tires that way) finding a 15" rim tire is really quite easy. |
Yea, I am at several tire shops almost every day so I keep my eye out for good used tires. Just wondering what I should look for. Hopfully I will have a Metro to start working with soon. I bet 15" wheels on a Metro would look like 20"s on a normal car!
