When you stare into the abyss, the abyss looks pretty stupid.

Fellow ecomodders, are you self-conscious of your car's looks? Tired of the stares and questions? Well, just be glad you aren't driving around in this. Behold:

Don't hate! I could see myself in it if it has AC, lol!

Man, I drove around in this (which appraised out at about 850.00):

There has to be some fish which it most closely resembles. Grouper?

Kill it with fire!

So, who appraised that? Most "valuable" salvaged car, ever?

How to ruin the last Mustang with an all-American soul...

The quality of fabrication is top notch. I wish I could build cars in such a way. I just don't have the tools, knowledge or experience.

It's ugly as sin, but you have to appreciate the dedication and effort that went into building such a monstrosity.

It might have some function as a passive anti-theft :D

Hey, if you are making bolt-on fender flares, why not make one-piece fender skirts?

jamesqf 07-04-2015 12:55 PM

Why on Earth do you people think it's ugly? I wouldn't say it's a thing of beauty, but it's no worse looking than the aferage production car on the roads - including the Mustang it was created from.

Because it is actually worse. A lot worse.

Care to explain why you think so? (Leaving out the color of the paint, of course.)

Can you honestly say it's uglier than this: https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...2f&oe=5630E2A6 (Nissan Juke). this http://www.fiatusa.com/assets/images...rt-184x130.png (Fiat 500), this https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...t_20100508.jpg (Mini Clubman), or this https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...8_Scion_xB.jpg (Scion xB), to name just a few off the top of my head.

Hypermiler1995 07-05-2015 01:35 PM

What are some vehicles you like jamesqf?

Vman455 07-05-2015 01:52 PM

The workmanship, from what I can tell from the pictures, looks fine; it's the design and concept that haven't been thought through. For instance, look at the rear end: the trunk has a nice curve in it, and so does the original bumper cover, but this person has chosen to make a flat bar straight across which doesn't fit the design language of the rest of the car. Same with the wings. The headlights were sized for a much smaller car and are out of proportion. There's too much overhang in the front, the wheel arches are misshapen, there are redundant hood scoops, and it has a very pronounced beak or proboscis.

http://i1047.photobucket.com/albums/...pszfewnfzv.jpg

Lastly, the $75,000 appraisal is a joke, unless it was done by a blind guy.

Those other vehicles you posted at least have a cohesive, coherent design language; this looks like it was cobbled together in someone's backyard--which it was. That also explains why, a month after posting the ad, the car hasn't sold, despite the "Lambo door hinges" and "Cadilac [sic] tail lights."

Edited to add: I'm not trying to belittle the guy who made this in any way; he obviously wanted the car this way and I hope it makes him happy (or not--maybe there's a reason he's trying to sell it?). I simply found it amusing that someone would go to as much or more trouble as we Ecomodders do to alter the look of a car with no thought given to its functionality; rather than hideousness with a purpose, like most of us have, he ended up with hideousness for its own sake. As an artist myself, if that was his artistic goal--I can respect that.

if you wouldn't have linked the Juke, i would have. i think that is the ugliest and most odd looking vehicle on the road. i can spot 'em a mile away and my hackles are raised when one passes me by. don't know why.

I personally like the juke as a whole (amazing shape!), but the front needs a complete redesign!

So coherently ugly is good? Not IMHO. Understand that I'm not claiming this to be a thing of beauty, but it is no worse than the average. By 'beak', I assume you mean the large black grille? Well, that's found on many cars these days. The headlights are apparently functional, and why should they be made larger than necessary to do the job. I agree the rear end is not great, particularly the wing/spoiler, but again. lots of other cars have them.

The front end has a nice downwards slope, unlike the '06 Mustang it was made from, which basically looks like a wall with lights. It also looks less massive ahead of the wheels, unlike the Mustang.

Hypermiler1995 07-06-2015 02:25 PM

So speaking of ugly grilles, here's the 2016 Scion IA, 31mpg city, and 41mpg hwy!

freebeard 07-06-2015 03:26 PM

That front end didn't work in 1961 and it doesn't work today, especially aerodynamically.

http://www.carstyling.ru/en/car/1961_chrysler_turboflite/images/1765/

The problem with the headlamps is they are about 8 inches too far forward. It looks goggle-eyed. The Mustang-decklid-in-a-pickup-bed look—I don't care for.

Hypermiler1995 -- The frowny-face grille opening is popular nowadays. That example just looks tacked on.

If they hadn't put that grille on the '61 it would've been great, the back view is stunning!

And the frowny-face grilles are uglier than a cow with feathers, give me a '95 camaro front fascia thank you!

How does comparing it to other ugly cars make it not ugly? Not that I agree all the cars you compare it to are ugly, but drawing the comparison doesn't suddenly make it prettier. Of the four listed above, I would say the Juke is worst, and I can honestly say the Juke is far less ugly.

IMO, this creation is a visual assault to the eyes. It looks like several different cars grafted together because it IS several different cars grafted together. Sometimes this can be done to improve the overall look of the car, in this case, it's an absolute failure.

Not just the grille, the back end looks pretty ugly too, at least from the angle of that shot.

First, it is NOT all that ugly, but IMHO rather above average for recent model cars, most of which seem to be consciously seeking ugliness. The comparison is to show that there are indeed far uglier cars out there. If you think otherwise, that's just your (bad) taste :-)
