Where are they now?

I've been thinking for a while now of trying to contact people and companies that have built high mpg vehicles, or advanced engine designs, and seeing what ever became of them? I figure this site is noteworthy enough, we could get away with saying it's for "a Ecomodder news article/blog" press thing of some sort. Just something to make it seem official so people would be more inclined to reply.

What do you think?

I'd like to find out what Dave Cloud's is up to with the "Dolphin." Would he ever sell it?

John Waylands attempt to build "Silver Streak," a 350 mile range Honda Insight with an EV1 drivetrain and wheels? Last update from him on that was in 2009, though that material got picked up in 2011 for different articles.

Aptera, Edison2, the many more obscure Xprize entrants like Washington University who built exceptional one off high mpg cars like the Viking 45. What ever happened to the "Four-sight?" The WaveII? Loremo? Where are these cars now? Or will we hear about them 20 years from now on ebay as neglected barn finds?

Lit motors?

Meullers pulse wave engine that got funded by DARPA?

koenigsegg's camless engine in a Saab?

Singh and his engine grooves?

Anymore i missed?

Be interested in the outcome. I was reading the comments on an article about flight 370 that vanished over the indian ocean. Some of the comments said they had some talented engineers on the plane and it may of been purposely downed due to greed, ownership of a company, etc, etc, etc.

Loremo?

Dead as the dinos :(

Haven't heard from them in years - I've been on their waiting list since before 2005.

They were going to produce some pre-production cars after the restructuring ... but they haven't even produced a new picture of a car for the last couple years.

There's only one drivable Loremo.
The company couldn't even afford to pay for its repairs (around 2.000 euro) after it got damaged.
Word has it, it's been locked in a container somewhere.

Somebody's paying their web hosting bill though, as their website is still up.

There's an Aptera Type 1 at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, in the "Inventors and Innovations" exhibit.

Here are those photos sorry the quality isn't great but the lighting was pretty bad in that part of the museum.

Ken Fry and his Zing trike.

Gogogebic and his single occupant commuter car... I mean, CAD model.

The "Aardvark" (my name for it)- that MN CRX with extensions off each end.

The successor to the Hyperrocket.

The electric successor to the Aptera.

The LincVolt.

That turbine/hybrid Hummer.

Those two Metro-based trikes.

The Cavalier and SkyHawk trikes.

The Vendetta trike.

The Metro with the 1-cylinder diesel poking through the hood.

The Hayes production diesel motorcycles.

The Lit full-bodied gyro-stabilized motorcycle.

The single-cab Metro.

The homemade white diesel streamlined two-seat car.

Wonder where they're at...

I wonder if I've seen that CRX you mentioned?

Is your avatar Uncle Elmer?

That's the real Frank Lee. He changes it up a bit to throw us off.

Frankly, I wonder if that's off the top of your head, or you have a list squirreled away somewhere.

Put it on ecomodder letterhead. :)

Is it done yet? What result?

backpacker3 -- Be careful what you ask for, a local car dealer has their company cars Plastidipped in Mary Kay pink. I like the two tone arrangement; does it need body filler or something? Maybe just a flat/satin clear?

Now I'm all confused.

Yeah, Edison and other X-Prize contestants.

Edison especially- what are they doing with that huge pile of prize money? Developing a car or just living large?

Where does the money come from for those X-Prizes anyway? Many corporate sponsors or does Progressive have that much money laying around because that's how badly they screw their customers?

A: Yes...it's called "...cash float..." in the insurance businesses.

I am pretty certain that Edison2 spent more than $5M just getting to the X-Prize. They had built 8 or 10 cars by the end, and then did a lot of work after the X-Prize, too.

Aptera had raised about $35M and had less to show for it.

Illuminati Motor Works is still out there, and they have rebuilt the entire body, and made other improvements. They dropped their consumption from ~156Wh/mile to ~130Wh/mile.

I've been hoping to see Dave Cloud's Dolphin with a lithium pack in it - that would be an an amazing thing.

Frank Lee 12-22-2014 10:14 PM

NO activity at the Edison2 site for over a year that I can see. :/

NO 2014 Facebook activity either.

P.S. Some came from taxpayers: http://auto.xprize.org/news-events/p...of-competition

I want my in-hub steering, d@mm!t. :(

Frank Lee 12-23-2014 12:32 AM

http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps738144c4.jpg

Model T! (There's a little planetary gearbox at the top of the steering column)

jcp123 12-23-2014 01:44 AM

The more I read about cars, the more I believe that the T deserved its reign of total domination. It was the perfect car for its time. Simple and brilliant.

Aside from some vague recollection of the name Aptera, I have heard of none of these other vehicles...

Frank Lee 12-23-2014 03:02 AM

I want.
