Why it is important to change your cabin air filter.

Notice that picture above. That is the cabin air filter from my 2007 Honda Fit with 65k miles on it. This car has records from dealership services a mile long. So why/how :confused: did they over look this? I changed it myself in 30 secs :thumbup:

I would suggest that you guys check yours yourself no matter what the dealership says they serviced... That is just plain nasty!

You mean, don't ever go to that dealership? Maybe that particular dealership is kinda shady. My wife takes hers to a different one and they seem to be very good. However, I am kind of a do it yourself guy anyway, but for some things, I do prefer someone else do it (i.e. timing belt change)

I go to the dealership all the time with my weird questions and requests for odd little parts and I agree that you should not have to check up on the work that they are doing but it is worth checking up, just to do a quality control check of the service that you are paying for.
I am however confused as to why you have a mile long service record for this car that is basically brand new, with that many miles I would think that the service record would be short and show ten oil changes, two engine air filter changes, a cabin air filter change, maybe a valve adjustment, brake check and a new set of tires.

You'll be surprised how dirty that new filter will be a year from now. I'm not saying the dealership ever changed it, but they do get skanky pretty quick.

Your defroster should work a lot better now too.

dealership usually charges about $60 for the filter changeout, and as long as i am getting ANY air, i ain't paying $60. of course, thanks to great groups on the interwebz, it is simple to find out how easy something like this is...

True, I did exaggerate the mile long service record! Ha ha, sorry. I was a little over the top there in making my point! The service record is in fact not very long, but seems like this should have been changed at least once!

Good for you for changing your filter.:thumbup: I didn't realize cars had them (it just wasn't on my radar) until like two years ago! lol, so I was scared to look at mine when I did find out about them. My air always smelled funny and my car has just been all over the place. I finally built up the courage a few weeks ago when I went on a "car-stuff spree" and changed my oil and filters.

It. was. so. gross. It was moldy and had so much dust and crud and broken up leaves in it! Ew! So good for you for changing yours! I certainly feel better after facing mine and defeating it!! :cool:

No My two cars do not have cabin air filters but they both take the same filter if I shove one in now if only i can justify the extra expense to add one. F>>k my lungs.
