Will mpguino show the mileage going up while the engine is off and car is moving?

I just today received an email stating the mpguino I ordered is on it's way. I am excited and can hardly wait.

It's not even here and I have a question.
If the engine is killed while gliding in the car what will mpguino show?
will it stop recording? To the point: Will mpguino show the mileage going up while the engine is off and car is moving?

As long as the key is in the 'On' position, yes. When it's in On, the VSS signal is still produced, so the MPGuino will record movement with no gas being used, which is an infinite number of miles per gallon.

Infinity will be abbreviated as 999999 :) But if you don't have a kill switch then the distance tracking will be interrupted as long as the key is off, so put it back to on quick as you can.

The trip mpgs should also go up while EOCing as the tracked distance increases without increasing the fuel used.

Perfect! That is exactly what I was hoping to hear.
Thanks.

Hopefully it will show up soon and my next post will be to say how wonderful it is. :)

Your Vibe is a Toyota product so you may run into the same thing I did;
With key on, engine off, car moving,
the SGII reads .05 gph. (? sometimes a little more???)
I don't know why, but other Toyota owners have the same issue.
It won't give you 99999 but will give you an inflated mileage value.
I get readings over 1000 mpg when gliding on the highway.
ie: 60 mph x .05 gph = 1200 mpg.

Your trip mileage will go up
Your tank mileage will go up
just not quite as much as if you were showing 0 fuel at all.

Hope this helps clear some stuff up.

The MPGuino should report 0 fuel being used, since it takes its' values from the injectors only. The SG2 takes values from a bunch of different sensors to calculate fuel usage, which why it shows up as a very small amount. But unless the injectors themselves are pulsing, the MPguino won't show any fuel being used.

Thanks metroschultz.
That is exactly what I have been seeing with the SGII. I had not heard it was a Toyota thing, that make sense. I had run into a few others having the same issue, they thought it was maybe something wrong with the SGII. Your explanation fits a LOT better for what I have read and seen.

That issue and the lag (lost data) as SGII reconnects to my ECU after the engine is off, is why I ordered the MPGuino.
Sounds like it is going to work perfect.

Don't get me wrong: I think SGII is an awesome tool and with its ease of install, I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I will be keeping the SGII pluged in also.
