Will raising my compression raise my MPG??

Sadly the rings in the 3rd cylinder went recently in my '94 Metro. Before this, I was getting up to 62.38 mpg. While planning an engine rebuild, I am considering getting the pistons balanced, engine blueprinted and balanced, the crank balanced and knife edged. Should run SMOOTH AS GLASS! Anyways, will shaving 1mm off the head (to raise my compression) give me any mpg's? Any input would be taken into consideration. Thanks for all the good information that this site has given me to get up there in mileage. Even though the gas price went back down. C3.

Theoretically it should raise the efficiency of the engine. Will of course need tuning and lots of work, with probably no conclusive results, :)

Also add a water injection system.

CoyoteX shaved his Metro's head and advises against it (pinging).

Possibly shaving less than he did is OK - he took 0.40 off. See http://www.teamswift.net/viewtopic.p...it=shaved+head

I think you would be better off adding an XFI cam instead.
raised compression will require a higher octane fuel or for the engine to be run cooler, or both, making sure that the head and block are flat and mate together perfect is as far as I think is a good idea.
