Wind Energy

Hey, this is pretty cool!

The same guy, Doug Selsam, is selling a 2kw twin rotor wind turbine for $2,000:

Or, a seven rotor (each one is 7' diameter) that can produce 6kw:

How much energy does an average person use in the US? I have a hard time understanding their feasibility on a household scale. They do look good though.

Hello,

It really depends on how hard the wind blows. My family of four in a pretty typical house use between 550 and 700 KWH in a month. So, if the wind blows half the time, the 2kw twin rotor model above would be enough to offset our use.

It starts at 8mph wind speed and peaks at 30mph. I think I would need to get the low wind speed model, which has 10 foot diameter rotors, instead of 7 foot; and it costs $300 more. Very interesting stuff.
