Wooden-framed electric 3-wheeler

You're probably expecting some kludged together home-built pile. From anyone other than Morgan, I'd expect the same:

The Morgan EV3 Is The All-Electric 3-Wheeler Of Future Past

Cool!

Aren't Morgans basically expensive kludged-together piles, anyway? :D

j/k... having seen one in the flesh, I can't think of a more expressive and fitting way (automotive-wise) to waste money.

I would so love to drive this EV version when it comes out. I wonder if I can petition at the office to get sent to the UK to try it out... :p

I don't know if I'd call it "kludged." Wood is the original composite building material. The fact that it is naturally occurring just helps keep the cost down.

That little rig is gorgeous and makes me wish I could afford it. Tiny and featherweight, gets seriously useful range out of just 20kw/h. WANT.

I want it.
Or at least a kit to build one from.

Morgan is content being an automotive anachronism and builds beautiful automobiles the old-fashioned way to keep with tradition. Keeping costs down likely has nothing to do with it, as there is a lot of manual labor to do it.

Is it practical? No.
Is it an ideal car for any purpose? Not really.
Does that make me want one any less? Absolutely not.

What a coincidence...

I get daily updates from B-a-T about interesting cars for sale. On today's e-mail was this one:
2013 Morgan 3 Wheeler | Bring a Trailer

Here is a gas-powered version that is legally licensed in the US.

Winning bid on March 2nd—$47,000.

The electrified version has a rear hub motor. The brass grille bars are aerospace passive heat pipes for cooling the controller.

R.Q.Riley has plans for a side-by-side two seater with an aluminum monocoque and fiberglass body. You could build one and substitute a wooden cyclecar body.

I do like the nose on it. One asymmetrical headlight at legal height and two down where they throw bumps in the road into relief.

Man that thing is sexy. The petrol version is neat, and the prototype electric was OK. But this... damn. I've been keen on Morgan cars for years, and have vowed to one day own a 4/4 converted to electric.
