Hyundai ioniq
Thinking of buying a new hybrid. The ioniq has impressive #’s. Anyone hear much about it good or bad?

I've done some reading, initial reviews are pretty glowing for both it and the Niro. Ioniq clearly gets better economy than the Niro, but the Niro can fit a full sized couch in the back and still deliver more than 50mpg. Worth considering. Both also have plug-in variants which, in the 'states, are around the same price after federal incentives.
I have some concerns about the 6 speed DCT, but with Hyundai's warranty, it probably isn't a big deal.

I’ve read that the Niro has a diff system than other hybrids , does a lot of cutting in and out ,,jerky the tester quoted,but my wife likes it most because of practical reasons. Kia has become reliable now and that improves its looks.

The Niro and Ioniq have the same drivetrain. Fuel economy difference is due to weight and aero. |

The same full sized couch I can stuff in the back of my Insight  with about 5ft of it hanging out the back. |

The Ioniq is slightly bigger than my 2nd gen Insight, which carried a.o. 3 chests of drawers in one go, one really big chest of drawers, a 15 foot tree in chunks, a queen sized bed, a swing set with 8 foot poles, bicycles, and worst of all my family and 1 week worth of luggage by my wife's reckoning. All with the trunk closed.
The extra overhang at the back, compared to regular hatches, makes all the difference.
It is basically an estate car with a sloping back end.
