Is this worth $200?

I emailed this guy that said his Geo was a "good little car" until his son ran it into a dirt bank. Now there is front end damage, and it needs control arm mounts cleaned up and probably fixed... he wants $200 for it.

Not sure if it's a 3cyl or not. BTW, Wonderboy, it's located just above Ithaca, so it might be a good parts car for you, if you're interested.

SVOboy 09-03-2009 11:26 PM

I wouldn't plunk down $200 for that :p

dcb 09-03-2009 11:50 PM

If it's a stick shift, and I had an automatic I would buy it for a manual swap for $200, no prob. Specially if the tires are good. Having a spare engine to take your time rebuilding while still driving is convenient too.

Christ 09-03-2009 11:53 PM

DCB, I was thinking sort of the same lines... but I don't have a anything right now... I think I'll wait for a good shell to come along.

dcb 09-03-2009 11:59 PM

Well I'm picking up an old tdi this weekend and *might* be moving the 98 metro stick 1L if the TDI checks out.

Christ 09-04-2009 12:02 AM

I'd rather restore the TDI than be given the Metro, even in inspection worthy condition, honestly.

(Keep in mind, we're talking about PA inspection here... one of the worst in the country.)

dcb 09-04-2009 12:12 AM

ok, you don't like metros, I get it. Good luck.

No, I like them, just that I like TDI's more. I won't travel very far for a car, either, as it's just not worth it to me, and in most cases, I have no way to haul a car home anyway.

dcb 09-04-2009 12:31 AM

Could also fetch it single handed w/a bike bike :)

 LOL

McTimson 09-04-2009 08:00 AM

I saw that one on CL also, it didn't have the pictures that revealed the front end though. 1993 Geo Metro says it's a 3cylinder, so I guess it is.

I wouldn't buy it, but that's because I don't have any other Metro stuff lying around. The rest of the body looks pretty good, but there could be a lot of rust underneath stuff as well.

Christ 09-04-2009 12:05 PM

3 cylinder 5 speed, has a/c.

I sent the guy an email telling him that it's just not worth it to me... he sent me ^^^ back as a reply.

I don't think I'm going to drive 1.5 hours, look at the car, give $200, set up a way to move it, etc... and have it be a basket case (as it obviously is).

solarguy 09-04-2009 12:44 PM

If he lived across the street from me, and it was fifty bucks, maybe...

Finest regards,

troy

just that would have sealed it for me

Wonderboy 09-05-2009 10:45 PM

You (or anyone) should buy my *91 civic HB shell for $350... btw the guy I bought it from has at least 6 metros, so if you want a metro I can ask him about each one and post details.

* no title ;)

I'm still weighing the options, because I'm not really looking forward to getting a title for the Civic, honestly. That, and I hate body work. And I've got my house to worry about, and my Truck that I have get on the road, Cara I have to play with, racing tractor, pulling tractor, now a 4 wheeler that I have to fix, etc... I'm getting neck deep in projects again, not even counting all the stuff that my Father and I were supposed to have done this year, that probably won't get done, due to lack of funding/time.

Oh, and now I just broke my backhoe... so there's another setback, to the tune of whatever a new set of hydraulic lines costs, plus around 20 gallons of hydraulic fluid.

Johnny Mullet 09-06-2009 09:01 PM

Parts car only.

Woe... Mr. I'll Salvage Anything On Wheels saying that? It must be junk... LOL

Johnny Mullet 09-06-2009 10:11 PM

Well, if I got my hands on it, I could probably make it nice again, but for the average mortal human..............

Christ 09-07-2009 12:34 AM

Long hair... no beard. It won't grow. The first pic is from about 3 years ago, this one is from about 2 years ago. I now look more like the first pic, except I'm a bit fatter. I've been slackin' on keeping in shape, not doing much lately. And my neck got bigger... something about lifting engines up with 3" nylon straps makes your neck bigger. ;)

It's not exactly safe, but it's faster than a cherry picker... $300 is worth more over 1 hour than it is over 4 hours.

I would never recommend others do most of the things I do. This is one of those things.

MadisonMPG 09-07-2009 12:51 PM

You look a lot weirder than I expected. On topic, don't buy that Geo.

Nice cover..

I'm actually slightly amused.

MadisonMPG 09-07-2009 09:48 PM

Wasn't a cover, I honestly don't think you look normal.

alohaspirit 09-07-2009 10:03 PM

You're a dude, right?

Can I ask why you're judging how I look? (Especially on this forum...)

It's not that I mind, but it's kinda taken me by surprise... I wouldn't have expected it from you, honestly.

;) (Messin with ya.)

I've met him and he looks and acts pretty normal to me... he doesn't really have a big "S" on his chest though - that might've thrown you off. My avatar is Dustin Hoffman by the way. It's not really what I look like.

Good Gods, thank you. I could never quite think of who that was... and no, you look nothing like him. That's probably a good thing, though.

Hey, when did you wanna go to the Elmira yard, if at all, so I can make time to take those knuckles apart, if you're going to take them to Ben.

alohaspirit 09-08-2009 03:26 AM

I look exactly like my avatar

I pictured someone dressed more arogant. I can't really say that without coming across like an ass. You don't reflect your e-personality.

Hold on -

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...20/0420004.jpg

Like that?

BTW - you're not going to offend me, dude... I've been told I look like a serial killer before. "Weird" isn't going to bother me one bit. :)

(Sorry the pics suck... they're from a webcam about 5 years ago.)

alohaspirit 09-08-2009 06:16 PM

when you had long hair you looked like one of my friends from school

Christ 09-08-2009 09:01 PM

I used to... not anymore, though. (play M:TG)

alohaspirit 09-08-2009 09:18 PM
