The Wagon R. Because the previous generation was available here and it was robust, economical, unpretentious transport.

Even though it's true, the non-JDM versions (Wagon R+, or Wagon R Wide depending on the market) relied on a less sophisticated engine which may eventually also be easier to find parts in export markets due to its usage in other models that were not exclusive to Japan. That's a good point in favor of the Toyota Premio, since its powertrain won't be so substantially different from other models more easily available out of Japan.

In the UK Vauxhall - a GM brand until recently - used to do the Wagon R with their own engines fitted. Can't remember whatnot was called.
