Wreckyard tubes or radiators for DIY EGR cooler? How to clean them?

What can one use to cool EGR?
Maybe some tubes or some small radiators?

Maybe some junkyard oil coolers?
Although they'd work I suspect they will clog often, while being difficult to clean.

Are there any two-piece radiators than can be unbolted open for cleaning while preserving a leak free seal?

Why not just gen a junk yard EGR cooler?

Depending on flow, I'd hit up either TDI club (about 1" of pipe) OR a 1ton diesel truck forum for used EGR coolers that people removed. Common removal unfortunately. I have a spare TDI cooler (there is one in my car BTW) that I can take pics of if you'd like, it is slated for use as a waste heat collector on a generator at a friends house so you can't have it.

What is the benefit of an egr cooler?

I also have one off a TDI that I was going to use on a car... alas not anymore. If your interested you can PM me. I have some pics of it here:

Explination of why you'd want to do this is in the thread:

Its more effective at keeping the combustion gases cool and keeping energy losses to the cooling system down. One has to be careful not to over cool the EGR gases however. If the water molecules in the EGR condense the combustion energy must overcome the heat of vaporization which robs power and fuel economy.

That's why the OEMs use engine coolant cooled EGR coolers.
The hot engine coolant isn't cool enough to condense the water out of the exhaust.
