2001 Toyota Prius - $2000 - Madison Wisconsin

Its not mine. If the guy can be talked down a bit this could be a great car. Send the pack off to hybridbatteryrepair.com or buy a salvage yard battery pack and try to fix it yourself. I do wonder how long the pack will last on it though as he says it still drives...

This is just what I have been looking for, too bad its not an 03/04 instead of an 01.

Anything I should be looking out for on a Prius that vintage? I have no clue what game over things I should look for and a battery doesn't seem like a real biggy to me, but mechanical/xmsn would be.

Thanx
Ryan

Ryland said some of the first gens had transmission problems? Nabbing an oil sample could probably tell you if its going bad (though I don't know what actually goes bad in them).

Was it possible to hypermile a first gen up to the really high FE numbers 2nd gens could sustain?

I don't know if slip streaming worked on gen I or not.

Ah well might be sold already.

In city driving I would definitely think so. It just has different speed points. For example, the speed at which the engine turns on might be different. I also think the EV mode speed is lower than the 2nd gen, but thats a non issue unless you get a plugin kit.

Good luck finding one though, nearly impossible to find any in the wild and when they are they are usually WAY overpriced.

no ****,

I just picked up my 01 "chick magnet" for $2200
(also picked up a 120 mile/day commute)
the fuel savings should pay for the purchase price of the car in the first year
