Yaris approaching 50mpg life time average

The 2007 Yaris hatchbaack is at 52.18mpg 90 day average, 54.03mpg 3 tank average, and 48.94mpg life time average, in the time left before winter I hope to get to 50mpg [4.7L/100km] life time average.:D The driving style is moderate hypermileing, keep highway speed at 57.5mph [92km/hr] cruise control, coast down long hills at idle; scanguage shows 0.4L/100km [587.5mpg], engine off at railway crossings... the mods are sheet metal under body, moon hubcaps, warm air intake, 10% underdrive aluminium pullies, tapered styrofoam peaces behinde obstructions under body, sheet metal upper grill blocker, driving light recess covered with foam, and part of the lower grill blocked. Am presently considering a better under body at the front and middle, kammback above the rear window, then a boat tail... I have done nothing to reduce weight, the Yaris weighs less than 1200kg [2640lbs]on the truck scales along the highway, with me and my groceries etc.

Very nice job. Pics of the mods would be great if you have any. I'm sure other would love to see them too.

I would love to see the under body pics! My Matrix should have a similar set up and that is my next area for mods.

Good work!

redyaris -

Fantastic. I looked in your garage and the Yaris mods look good. Looking forward to the 50 MPG plateau.

Congratulations,

50mpg lifetime is excellent for a hatchback gasser. Especially seeing as there appear to be cold conditions to contend with in your part of the world.

Keep up the good work

Very nice mods. I love the grill block. It makes your car look like it has a mustache! :D

The wheel covers look great too. Did you buy them or make them?

Great job -- the Yaris starts out at a Cd of 0.29, so your improvements may drop it close to the Prius? If you close the "chin" panel just ahead of the radiator, then you probably could make a symmetrical lower grill by closing off the driver's side to match the passenger's side.

Great work. The Yaris really is a sleeper economy-wise. I rented one with an automatic for a week and got 43 mpg, including my nightly hill-climb, and with no mods other than tire pressure and antenna removal.

The hubcaps are store bought, the reason for the offset is that the radiator is offset, unseen inside is a aluminium plate on the right side directing the air through the radiator. The alternate explination is that I am "asteticaly challenged" and therefore have no apreciation of symmitry. Some of my artistic friends would atest to this... One feature that can not be seen on the "mustache" upper grill blocker is that the bottom edge projects out about an inch so some air still gets into the radiator from the upper grill. Daox thanks for the pics transfer it would have taken me hours to get that done. The under body is the mark 1 and still a bit rude and crude, the mark 2 may be installed this winter, with a Kammback over the rear window. my antenna is still in place, for now, can anyone tell me where I can get one of those 1 inch high plastic antena seen on some bmw's.
