You can have both POWER and MPG...

At the expense of money! These are million dollar cars (plug in hybrids), but the technology is pretty amazing. Credit where credit is due, it certainly blows current production hybrids out of the water.

The 918 just broke the record for fastest production car Nurburgring lap. 6 min 57 sec. Beat the Viper ACR's record.

That's 1980's Formula 1 pace.

This one impresses me the most, the BMW I8. Come on, a 1.5liter 3 cylinder plugin hybrid! And at 1/10 the price of the previous two million dollar cars.
Green Car Congress: BMW unveils production i8 plug-in hybrid; 94 mpg; on sale in US in 2014 priced from $135,925

On the bright side, maybe that'll shut up the "but the Volt/Tesla/whatever is too expensive!" crowd :-)

So, how many here going to write a (good) check for one?

Hmm, parallel through the wheels.

The 94mpg might be some volt-like book cooking, selectively using wall power in the figure. In fact I'm pretty sure it has to be.

At 1.5 l and 3 cylinders, i'm sure it should get good mileage if you laid off of it.

I'm surprised it even is a 3 banger. With 3 cylinders there's a "time space" between each cylinder firing which isn't ideal for power or refinement. A 4 cylinder will fire at the end of the last cylinder firing, most everything else has a firing overlap.

I would be surprised if it did much better (if at all) than a metro or a crx/insight on gas only. But it costs 100x more. 22 mile electric range is very useful locally, but if you head out into the desert with 2 gallons of gas left thinking you are going to go 188 miles, you might be in for a nasty surprise. I mean the edison2 was vastly superior at efficiency and it only get (an honest) 100ish mpg. I don't like it when the mix wall power and gas into one efficiency figure, it is dumb.
