You guys are a bad influence...

I'm an aircraft mechanic. I like aero. Checking out the aero mods, and the aero-civic were a large part of lurking here, gas saving is a nice bonus.

Since joining here, I realized I've shifted automotive perspective slightly.

I realized this in the parking lot at work, I'm usually between an 1/8 and 1/4 mile from the door, so I get to walk past a few cars. I either aim for more space between cars / or lower cars so I can see around them better, or if there's a cool car I detour closer to check it out.

So, last week I realized I bypassed both a newer Porsche and a heavily modified Samurai, instead I went a little farther out of my way to check out a Metro. (It wasn't an XFI, and his tires looked a little soft.) :( What's wrong with me??!?!??

:turtle: Man, you guys...

You are in good company.

Yup, I've noticed that change in me, too. Instead of checking out the overall design of the car, I sort of critique to myself how aerodynamic or non-aerodynamic a vehicle is.

Just the other day, i was driving my Ninja 250 and i saw a new honda insight. It was like i saw a bugatti veyron, i swear. I was driving next to him checking out the interior, looking for the green dash light for ecodriving. The guy thought i was nuts :)

Every time i see a Kammack-like spoiler i get excited.

Then again, every time i see a person driving, by themselves, a SUV as if they are in the Garden State Parkway 1000, it grinds my gears!!

The other day i saw a humongous new Cadillac Escalade with a sticker on the back of it that said "Proud Mother of a United States Soldier". I couldn't help but think to myself HOW she is so proud that her son is over in the middle east fighting for OIL (yes, i said it, its the truth...) that she drives the most inefficient , biggest waste of resource, hunk of GM's blood sucking metal with any sense of pride?! ITS RIDICULOUS

Um... yeh, we're all crazy.

They're trying to aero-mod planes now.. so they're quieter, because apparently, the wind noise generated by planes is mostly wasted energy. It was on Planet Green last night (I never used to watch that channel... gee, thanks, everyone at EM.) LOL

Yeah I went to an large scale rc air show with my grandfather a couple months ago and when we went to leave there was a guy in a like 1995 hatchback civic. I was thinking about how it probably gets way good gas mileage and needed a kammback.... I told the guy "nice car" after he seen me staring at it and he looked at me like I was crazy but then realized I was not kidding and went on to telling me how there was 300k miles on it and he gets about 45mpg... http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1248022914 http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1248022914 http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1248033759 http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1248022914

At least he didnt' start telling you about the twin-turbonator, front mount interfooler, 2-liter bottle of NOS, and his wicked sweet GSR Hammer REEMZ and TIERS. LOL. Ricers.

Something like this? I seriously hate ricers.... (this was not the guy obviously) http://www.japanesesportcars.com/gal...-hatchback.jpg

I'd only be pissed about that car if he didn't spend as much money on the engine as he did making it look that close to a turd.

No matter how much you polish a POS... it's still.. you guessed it.

I've pretty much stopped reading conventional "performance car" reviews in the media. I skim them, but that's about all.

But I still watch Top Gear (UK). It's just too funny.

I dont like the term ricer
(i always think asian while only a percentage of them are actually asian)
and the topics been hashed to death

what about the old dudes who pay 80k for a restored chevelle
(you can buy a lot of rice for that)

to each their own i say
kinda like the guy who put 26"s on his $800 monte carlo
or the other guy who put 12" of lift on his chromed out silverado

it can be cool but one day, maybe you'll go green

Don't get me wrong, I like fast cars that handle like they're on rails, I like built up slow cars that can go anywhere you can point them; but for the piddling along commutes everybody seems to do, it's nice to see someone using the right tool for the job. A trip to the store doesn't take a paris-dakar rally support truck, or a race-prepped firebreathing monster; even if it would be more fun that way, it's overkill.

Come on, they've been aero-modding planes since the 1920s... Now they're just getting much more anal about it. Besides, everybody loves the looks of the new low-drag wings, winglets, smoother fuselages, NACA vents, vortex generators that actually work.... One that I really like is generating vortexes on the trailing edge of the thrust reversers, so that it makes the engines convergent cone seem longer and taper tighter, making it slightly more powerful and quieter.

If an import driver (Ricer) took up aeromodding, would that be the difference between White rice and Long-Grain?
