I used to have renters. The driveways on most of the units went to within 15 feet of the front doors. That wasn't close enough. They would drive on the lawn so that they saved those precious 5 steps on that long arduous journey from car door to house door. I always thought, I should put an overhead door with remote and ramp leading from the driveway to the living room. Then they can just drive in the house when they come home. Then, to save the effort of getting out of the car, I thought their cars should be modified with holes in the bottoms- like outhouses- so they could take care of business right there.

Oh, I should have posted this sooner, but my city has a hazardous waste disposal day once per summer (where you can bring cans of paint, cleaners, batteries... stuff like that).

It's a well attended service, and an anti-idler's nightmare, as it's structured as a drive-through event.

This year they specifically forbade people from riding their bicycles to drop things off. Safety and all, you know.

But it's good they're helping the environment and getting that message out there. ;)

We had the same thing here. After seeing the line I just could not bring myself to do it. I still have the car full of paint etc. :) I'll be going by the hazmat place in a week or two and will depose of it then.

Stick drive through voting in the same line for drive through fast food....

voter turnout will skyrocket....

You mean you all haven't figured out how to turn off your engines while waiting in line?

We don't need to wait in our cars while in line (I personally walk in).... "Joe the hamburger" on the other hand - has not figured out how to turn his engine off while waiting in line :/

That's weird, all three of 'em (different counties) I've been to require the cars to be off when stopped.

Can you get fries with that?

This is what one of the teachers would do back when I was in school. A parking space is very close to the front door, probably 30 feet. But she would drive right up the sidewalk to the front door. Perfectly able bodied person, better than most. But even today, people do that all the time at Walmart. Not only do they park in the fire lane, but the park right up on the friggin sidewalk.

Drive through everything these days. Even before I started caring about saving gas, I hated sitting in a drive thru. Id rather just get out and walk in, and then too I can make sure they understand me clearly and make sure my order is right.

Not only does sitting in a drive thru (with engine running like most do) waste gas, I bet the air quality is pretty horrid for anyone waiting there or working the drive thru. Not only is it a mass of running engines, but with the canopy over top, it traps the emissions.
