I'd skipped the link because I'm not afflicted by ads.

But I removed the 'app=desktop&' and it opened so I'll get to that tab eventually.

Any Linux users??

I'm on Mint on my older system:
Quad core AMD A8-6600K, 8GB RAM, 1 GB Samsung 840 Evo and various HDDs.
Way quicker than Windows, and everything just works:
  • Windows' formatted NTFS HDDs.
  • 2 Screens. (1 a TV providing sound)
  • Printer.
  • USB attached SATA drive, using the 'new' UASP protocol. (TRIM, NCQ, etc)
No fanfare like windows. Just; Oh! There it is.
Some tweaks like write caching make a nice difference. (Timeshift/backup enabled)
Much lower internet data usage. (no Bing or Chrome. uBlock helps a lot!)

(2nd system is a Windows, AMD 3900x, 16GB RAM, SSD and 2 striped SSHDs all file aware read cached (eBoostr) on Intel Optane.
I'm thinking/researching CachyOS and Bcache..?)

I have 1 life. That's priceless and I wont waste it watching (infuriating) ads.
if ...'Poor little' Google don't like it; they can close YouTube TF down.

Are those solar cells on 3 of the roofs?
That's ...nice.

Nope, those are A/C units on the roof and a row of diesel generators on the left.

Solar / battery storage is done at the utility level with the local utility having a field of solar panels and a 75 kw battery backup in a dedicated building. Both are near to the substation that feeds the industrial park.

I'm on Mint on my older system:
[raises hand] Raspian OS on the two most recent computers. Two remaining Apple machines, but they are non-worldfacing.

Better desktop performance than Apple's Finder. But the Pi 5 shipped with a Real Time Clock battery socket unpopulated. Batteries Plus don't have them, so I need to go to the trouble of ordering online.

What Pi?
I ask as there are nuerous ways to improve their performance. I find it fun to do! Are you interested in that sort of thing?

So the browser (what?) or ad blocker (what?) on your Pi (which OS?) updated its anti-anti-adblocker filters and the issue went away?

All the virii humanity is scared of are the ones for which there are not innoculations.
All the virii for which there are not innoculations are lipid coated.

The lipid coating 'disguises' the virus as a 'nutrient', so while innoculations for the uncoated/undisguised virii are easy; with the 'disguise' on;
your immune sys has no idea that the virus it's been 'trained' to destoy is in fact there in front of it...

The other thing the lipid layer does is enable the virus to dock with and infect a cell, turning it into a virus factory.
Eventually the factory 'pops', releasing millions of virii to continue the vicious cycle.

Now what if there was a way to disrupt or strip off that lipid layer/disguise:
Well your immune sys would then 'see' and destroy the virus.
And if it were busy elsewhere it wouldnt matter as the virus would not be able to get into a cell. It would just hang about awaiting it's turn to be executed.

Remember the Covid "Wash your hands with soap. I wont kill the virus but..." thing? Same story, but soap's not edible...

I'll stop there as, like the "Too good to be true" Boric Acid thing, no-one will believe me anyway.
Finding 3 "Too good to be true" things (so far) that are in fact true in my lifetime is my own little 'Won the Lotto' thing.

Covid was a complete non event for me and mine. No 'fear and hiding' etc.
No flu or fever blisters etc either. Havent been to a quack in what... 10-15 years now.
(Those flu vaccines are BS because your immune sys has been innoculated against the nakid virii, which it cannot 'see')

Having no fear of any of those 'no cure, no innoculation for it!' virii is liberating!

The way I see it, YouTube funds it's service (hard drives aren't free) by two means, ads and subscriptions. If you don't want to watch ads or pay for a subscription, then maybe YouTube isn't for you.

Pi 4 (4Gb) and Pi 5 (8Gb) running Bookworm. I see there was a new release in May so I shall update. There are some things I should fix, like the overscan -- I can only see half the Left-most icon in the menu bar.

Stock out of the box. I think Youtube's policy reverted. Update and Upgrade is done in the Terminal which it looks like is due.

Afaik, pihole isn't necessarily required to run on a raspberry, but all the distros are done in binary to optimize. My youtube is mostly ad free, but it took a while to winnow out the domains of the major advertisers, and I still have to periodically go and add new addresses. Sometimes it takes a couple seconds to go through that list to load programming
