YouTube sucks now. Here's how to fix it.

I don't know about everyone else, but nowadays YouTube can seriously p!ss me off!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=rteYHxcLCZk

NB that uBlock Origin will NOT work with Google Chrome (and MS Bing?) anymore.
It does work with Firefox and others.

"My browser already has add blocking built in":
Yes, but does it still block YouTube ads (as usual) and plain old browsing adds even after YouTube/Chrome's anti adblocker updates..?
uBlock Origin does.!

NB
That with uBlock the ads don't ever leave their servers, so you do NOT pay for that data and just not see them.
That's makes your internet faster too.

To add:
Linux (Mint etc) is free, faster than Windlows, just wucking ferks and seamlessly does gaming nowadays too.
Most importantly; Windblows will happily blow through your monthly data quota like they paid for it! (and your hardware and electricity!)

"Yes but what about my MS Orifice 365!??"
LibreOffice is free, opens all Orifice files and saves them as Orifice docs etc if you so wish or set it to.

For AMD:
NB that basically the broadly used Intel Compiler checks to see if it's and Intel Processor and if it is; uses all the hardware extensions like SSE and AVX etc.
If not; it uses an old code path from the days of the 386 processors!

They have been doing this (and making sure all benchmarking software uses their compiler) for years, as a means to make AMD look crap..! (or crappier than it was)

If you insist on Windblows, do check out Intel Compiler Patcher.

On the Linux side CachyOS looks interesting!?
(Zero experience of it as yet)

I'm a (retired/converted) Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE, network admin) FWIW here, (who was writing this up for elsewhere anyway)
so if anyone wants/needs advice...

I got started with the Apple][ in 1980. Supported Norton Utilities for nine years. But I left the Apple ecosystem for the Raspberry Pi.

A week or two ago, Youtube started halting videos if their ads wouldn't work. I just opened Rumble and followed my podcasters there. Not so much Blender tutorials and rat rods* on Rumble. It had ended a few days later.

I declined Bill Gates operating system, so he switched to vaccines. I declined those too. What will he try next?

Watching a movie on YouTube atm...
1 hour and 2 minutes in and not 1 ad... As always; YouTube anti adblocker is oblivious.

What browser are you using?
What Pi? Guessing a Pi4B with 4GB RAM? With The OS etc on a SD card?

Had you noticed? The Marxist 'long march through the institutions' has reached Open Source software. It's like Ganergate all over again. You could see Cancel Culture start with Richard M/ Stallman and Eric S. Raymond* from 2015.

Today, I follow the Lunduke Journal on Youtube. He names names.

The Cathedral and the Bazaar
The Cathedral and the Bazaar: Musings on Linux and Open Source by an Accidental Revolutionary is an essay, and later a book, by Eric S. Raymond on software engineering methods, based on his observations of the Linux kernel development process and his experiences managing an open source project, fetchmail. It examines the struggle between top-down and bottom-up design. Wikipedia

I'm not up to speed on Brave.
I has a good rep though and always comes up when this topic is discussed.

Do you get any ads when watching YouTue? Or is it like they dont exist?

I NB that there is a 'Cold War' going on where YouTube updates its anti adblocker and threatens you with death for a while, then the anti-anti-adblocker in uBlock (and Brave?) is updated and things go back to 'What Ads?'

With uBlock Origin, on Firefox and other browsers that aren't Chrome based, there is is no need to skip ads: It's like they simply dont exist.

Ublock origin on firefox android:
Yes; uBlock does not work on Android Chrome and hasnt for a long time.
If you just have to browse on a phone (I hate it/them), the best way to do any browsing and YouTubing is with Firefox + uBlock.

I also use Brave because it is good at blocking pop-up ads and works on my work computer, home computer, and phones.

As to YouTube - ad free is $12 a month in the USA. If I watched a lot of YouTube I would just go that route. Somebody has to pay for the content.

I made the mistake of using a proxy to subscribe to the YouTube family plan (5 unique users) at the discounted rate charged in another country, and now Google will forever believe I live in India or some such place. Since Google has no support options whatsoever for anything, there is no remedy other than to create a new account.

Too bad a non-evil (treats us as customers and not the product) alternative doesn't exist. I'd be willing to pay a subscription for that.
