Well, they are transporting small packages, not entire cargo vehicles.

Blood sounds pretty urgent, but going even larger for non-urgent items makes sense to me.

If here in the U.S. they have small drones to drop off lunch, bandaids, and other small orders, why not use large drones to deliver normal hospital supplies?

Eh. Save lives first, then worry about making the rest of the supply chain more efficient.

Not having to maneuver as much as an ambulance trying to escape from traffic jams, with excessive braking and subsequent throttling, I guess for some emergencies it could actually be more efficient. On a sidenote, drones have already been used by drug dealers to deliver small amounts of weed in Rio de Janeiro, no joke.

I don't have any idea if there is any truth to this, just that when I first searched I found results of cartels using drones very poorly.

I guess the shorter distances the cariocas are using the drones make it easier, not to mention some favelas are quite close to some middle and high-income boroughs where the drugs would be consumed.
