It was meant to win a race in the desert, being roadworthy is already a stretch. It was never meant to go in production.

A production version of that car would weigh a ton, have only 3 square meter of lower efficiency solar cells and a battery with twice the capacity but 4 times the weight.
But it should be affordable.
The solar racer isn't. You can probably buy a couple of Teslas and a sizeable solar farm for that money. But then it was never meant to be for sale.

This isn't 'What if we try to make a cheap solar car?'
But a car like this may be possible in the future if high yield solar cells, lightweight high power batteries and carbon bodies etc. become cheap(er).
