3 out of 4 major commutes were in Thunderstorms with heavy rain and wind. Adding to that, several short trips and cooler ambient temps, and the result is lower than previous -- BUT, higher than average.
The PS delete is very tolerable and allows a much better feel for the how the vehicle is handling in addition to available traction and breakaway-skid threshold during cornering in rain.
Overall, highway speeds and acceleration rates are slower for competition purposes. There were fewer instances of EOC this tank.

3rd coolest July on record = less A/C. Combined trip tank: commute, errands, highway, airport. Completed bridge construction allows an efficient shortcut during rush-hours commute.

Notes: Oil Change at 141K -- changed to "High Mileage" Castrol GTX 5W-30. Also adjusted the transmission-throttle linkage for smoother shifts (the CV joints are complaining).
Commentary: After the oil change and transmission adjustment, I noted a consistent 3 mpg drop in identical routes and conditions. Changing the oil occurred a few days after the adjustment. Theory: the gas pedal is much lighter on tip-in, where before it would pull the linkage immediately. Also, TC lockup was firmer. I'll have to monitor the situation to see if something else isn't going haywire.
I may reset the ECU due to the recent changes: new plug wires after catastrophic failure, transmission adjustment, warmer weather, etc.
This Tank: We had a sleet/snow storm that decreased mileage. Otherwise, business as usual. |

Yay, one of the worst ever! (Premium used at $2.12/gal)
Actually, take the average of this and the last tank due to the short fill, which = 32.55 MPG.
Other reasons for the decrease: More city driving, other family members have been driving the car, and the spark plug wires melted, arced and disintegrated into only 2 operational wires, resulting in 2-cylinder operation. After the repair, the wires have been popping off of the distro, resulting in Closed Loop and the requirement to pull over and plug them back in.
I may return the wires and trade for a different set or rig-up something.
Milestone: the vehicle just rolled over 140K miles. |

Well, this is actually pretty good for Winter driving -- mostly city too. EOC is up and and so is the coolant temp. The full rad block is keeping the temps pretty high, but at least 190-200+ (and sometimes 240 or so).
FE, low-RPM power, and TC engagement is much improved with the higher temps -- but it's bound to get warmer. The higher temps likely compromise longevity, so, I'll make it a partial block until it's 50F+ consistently. |

I decided to replace the cardboard radiator cover, despite the variable warmer temps. Keeping an eye on the coolant temps and adjusting the heater seemed to keep it from overheating.

Well, this is certainly a surprise. The first 100 miles were actually pretty good: in the low 40's mpg. Then the snow hit. Stop-and-go traffic barely broke 20 for the middle 2/3 of the tank. Then today, a 34 mpg commute with heavy traffic (stop-and-go in the morning, open in the afternoon) helped bring the tank back. Temps have been in the single-digits.
New mod: Aluminum Foil! A foil shield is now covering the exhaust manifold to trap heat for the intake. The grille block allows the engine to warm up quickly, but IATs are tough to get in the 100F+ range when on the highway. A partial undertray would be ideal, but time, effort, ya know... |

Much colder -- really tried with the competition, but 20+ mph headwinds and falling temps hurt the final result. I've never P&G'd so much! But alas, Teggy is not a cold weather car, and I need more practice/instruction to get that elusive high-30's Winter tank.
The WAI needs tweaking -- after a cold soak, it takes a while to source heat, and a pulley is quite loud on startup (getting worse each Winter). Need to investigate. |

Short fill before winter mods for baseline. 1/2 tank of 91 Octane to prevent detonation. Further fuel is planned for 89-octane on full fills. Price listed is for base/87-Octane for stats tracking.
Mods before fill:
* Covered the A/C radiator with shielding (wind block)
* Placed cardboard between A/C rad and Cooling Rad (heat retention, second wind barrier)
* Sealed inside leading hood edge with soft-sided velcro (on either side, bowed upwards and allowed airflow into the engine bay. The hood latch allows the rubber lip to seal in the center only.)
Notations on operation: coolant temps are higher and the fans operate often (45F today, tested in city and highway conditions. Colder temps are expected to reduce the need for fan use. This results in quicker warmups off-EBH and efficient IATs, sooner. Cabin heater use reduces the need for fan engagement. |

Abnormally warm days (50's, 60's, even 70's) have heated IATs into the "inefficient temp range": 140F+. Not good. On the Sub-35F degree days, it works. Otherwise, it needs some control. But, soon Spring will be here and a regulated fresh air system is required or else it's ping-o-rama. |

Odd thing: ambient temps were mostly in the single-digits and up to 25F for most of the tank. The last 5% of the tank was operated in the 40-60F range. FE was noted to improve throughout all temp ranges.
