Summer driving, all highway. I believe the 207 Stant Superstat thermostat is really helping these last few tanks. Also I did a Malone smart EGR tune and it runs smoother and has less carbon on Italian tune-ups.

First full tank since the Malone tune and mpg numbers look really good. I was on track for a record tank but the last 200 miles was done with studded snow tires and cold temps witch hurt my E-on coast distances. Some 50 miles of this was done in a snowstorm with slushy roads, lights, wipers and defrosters running.

I finished the summer experiment with the improvised "ice vest". Summer fuel, warmer thinner lower drag air and no A/C used has resulted a personal record tank! 61 mpg at highway speeds! I use engine ON coasting on hills and DFCO engine braking when I need to decelerate. I wish I could have driven the tank to empty. I still had a third of a tank left when I refilled.

Still on the highway with strong winds, high speeds and constant A/C use. This was a road trip clear across Kansas. Hot windy Kansas. I am sure the dense, low elevation air also hurt my highway mpg. There is a drive I often do into Wyoming where the elevation in Colorado and Wyoming are about 8,500' for much of the trip and my mileage goes way up on those legs of the trip.

The fill-up in Estes Park shut down before a full fill and I could not get it to take my credit card so I topped off in Steamboat to get an accurate fill-up.

I just discovered a commercial source of biodiesel diesel in my area. This is the first fill-up with B20. We will see how this impacts mpg. Among the reasons for using a biodiesel blend are better lubrication of the fuel injection parts than straight diesel.

I did a 1 gallon fuel stop to reach 915 miles on this tank. I have driven over 800 miles on a fill-up on previous tanks though.

This tank included a highway blast to Moab with speeds up to 75 and 80 with A/C on (by my wife). She loves to drive this car.

Astute observers will notice there is no way a VW can hold 306 gallons of fuel. In the interest of time and accuracy I have added up all my entries since I purchased the car used in May of 07 so this will show a true lifetime fuel log. I will add individual entries beginning in 2009.
