Filled up a little sooner than I wanted, but the gas prices seemed to be jumping up 35 cents across the city. Had a few trips out to my buddies garage with is about 30 miles away, all 50-55 speeds, pretty flat with just enough elevation change for really great pulse and glide. Much needed downtime is near. I ordered some Honda MTF for the trans to see if that makes a difference. As always lots of pulse and glide and EOCing.

Also had one bad trip where I was running late and found myself going 75-80 mph and my mpg for that trip was in the low 50's. Hoping for better this tank. As always, lots of pulse and glide and eoc. I am a little shocked with this data. I had several trips over 70 - 80 mpg, but the majority of the driving was 66-68 mpg. My MPGuino reset on me 5 times during this tank so the figure was tanken directly from the pump fill gallons to odometer mileage ratio. I am bracing myself for a filling error and lower mpg on the next tank. I did not want to wait another 70 miles to fill up at my normal location, so I filled up at a pump I normally do not frequent.

I had really hoped to get a 70+ tank and have better data to support it, but some things are out of my control.

As for the driving, the weather has been warming up. I have altered the route a little to optimized fuel efficency. It is also getting brighter in the morning so I am EOCing on the way into work now. Even when it is not bright enough, I am just monitoring my voltage and it seems file. Looking forward to the next tank and seeing how much gas it takes to fill at my normal pump.

Hills going to DC through West Virgina really hurting the gas mileage. Average speed was also 65-70 mph without any pulse and glide. EOC was reduced to coasting with the engine on due to low visability and wanting to use my headlights in the evening. Such a shame as there was a 6 1/2 grade slope for 12 miles. Got a new tune on the ECU. It really improved 5th gear. Also while tuning, we noticed the engine fans kicking on way too much. I guess my central hole for air was not really as good as what I thought and was wasting power/fuel. I made a new lower grill block out of sheet metal and have a slightly larger opening right in front of the radiator. It seems to have helped alot. This was going to be a 65 mpg on this tank, but I hit traffic this morning due to a snow storm. Figures. I should have filled up before I hit the highway! Anyways, I see lots of potential though. I had several 70+ mpg trips and it is definitely capable of effortlessly mid 50’s without any hypermiling. Pretty cool stuff!

Wife said we could take my Civic to Chicago on one condition. That I go the speed limit (mostly 70 mph...) I could not get lower RPM lean burn and decided to try a max load/TPS lean burn tank. Speeds stayed between 73 and 80 mph. Engine load was always 88-91 and throttle possition sensore was pegged at 30 (sometimes 32-33 at higher RPMs). Not sure if this is a success story or one of the worst tanks I have ever had since owning the car. Still a good test and the wife was happy.

I had some down time on the car and was driving my trick and accord alot this past week. End result is the car is now lowered on Tein S springs. About a 2 inch reduction and hardly noticable from an appearance stantpoint. Car rides much stiffer and coasts easier. Liking it alot! While I had everything appart I also replaced the inner and outer tie rods and aligned it myself. I will be getting a professional alignment to check my work, but it seems to be very straight. On a negative note, I found out my thermostat in this engine was sticking open. End result was the car would take FOREVER to warm up the following morning. Idle was higher than normal durning those periods and lean burn was also not possible then. Swaping it helped alot. Looking forward to the next tank!

My first 60 mpg tank!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the stars aligned and I had low RPM (1900 to 2100) lean burn in 5th gear. About 400 of these miles were going 57-63 mph on the highway in 5th gear lean burn. It actually was staying around 63 mpg, but I hit some bad traffic. $~@#$ construction!

Car still is really picky about entering at lower RPM, but once it does, it will stay in for 150 miles or more! Finally, the true test of the lean burn at highway speeds!

I am still questioning the size of this fuel tank. I have never seen a fuel light come on. Not sure if it is an option on the CX or HX. Would have been nice to test, but I don’t like running really low on fuel.

Just trying to optmize my route better. Loots of pulse and glide, lean burn in 4th up hills, DFCO, and a few EOCs. Added the front bumper skirt and lawn edging back on as I have not had time to lower the car yet... Lowers the resistance alot and saw a big coasting

100% highway and nearly 100% lean burn. I started off in lean burn at 2100 rpm and after about 20 minutes of lean burn I was forced to stay above 2350. Most of the time was right around 2400 in 4th gear going about 60 mph. Trip there was 59.78 mpg. I was climbing up to 60 mpg and then hit a patch of slower speeds with light traffic which knocked me out of lean burn. The trip home was worse. Either there grade was a slight incline or wind was a factor. Really struggled to keep it the MPG decent. Ended up being 55 mpg on the return trip. Still pretty cool I was able to just get on the highway, maintain a steady speed, and get decent mpg. loving the lean burn!

Trying to maximize gas mileage. I had several 60 mpg trips, but hit some traffic to ruin the tank. Mainly lots of pulse and glide with DFCO. Used lean burn going 60 mph in 4th gear at about 2100 to 2200 rpms going up hills and slight inclines. Only a few instances of EOC becasue I did not want to prolong getting back into lean burn to go up hills.

Found out I need to got 75 mph to engage lean burn. Average speed of thid tank was probably 70 with little to no eoc or DFCO. Lots more learning and testing to do.

This was mostly higher speeds of 70-75 mph going to and from the DSM shootout in Norwalk. Alot of drafting and higher speeds when possible. Suggestion to all who draft, install a CB and ask permission to do so. It works out really well and you have some interesting conversatons with truckers. I was very happy with the results.

Loving using DFCO. I am finding ways to use it everwhere I go. This tank had alot of potential. Scan guage was reading my average tank over 50 mpg, but then I had to take a trip across town with my wife who was unwilling to deal with a glide going under 55 mph and required AC. Maybe next time...
