This finished off the tank of 91 octane E-0 that I got in Wurtsboro, NY after the 2017 Green Grand Prix. Had a nice 15 mph tailwind the whole way home. Then a pretty decent 4-day week commuting; no work on Good Friday.

Fill amount includes 0.51 gallons in Mystic, 4 oz Marvel Mystery Oil, and a full fillup at I-95 Exit 3 in RI.

I probably could have made it all the way to the RI station without the .510 gallon mini-fill that I gave it in Mystic. Tank supposedly holds 10.6 gallons so this is a legitimate tank. Definitely my longest running and highest-mpg tank so far.

This tank includes the track competition (FCD 78.0 mpg) PLUS the autocross. Autocross used a lot of fuel - I needed to idle engine continuously to warm it (at high rpms), and then continue idling between the runs to keep it warmed up. The runs themselves were something like 11 mpg.

The trip East from Horseheads area was relatively fuel efficient. Weather was around 38-40 at the start, and climbed during the day. Tailwind of about 15 mph was very nice. When I got home, the FCD showed 74.9 mpg for the 338.9 miles from the Horseheads area to home.

MPG has suffered. Granted, one trip was over snowy roads. That takes a toll - one earlier trip driving on 4-5" of crumbled snow netted 48 mpg until we got to cleared pavement. Plus some very cold mornings and some nasty headwinds.

First 145 miles was in SNOW: to New London to pick up Mike, then to Long Island, NY. Car pulled only 48.4 mpg driving in mostly unplowed or long-ago-plowed snow. Rain began as we passed through the Bronx, so soon the roads were only wet, not snowy. Arrived at destination with a big 50 mpg showing on the FCD.

Traction with the new Nokian snow tires was OK. I had to be cautious. When I got home, there were a few inches of snow in the driveway and I needed a running start to get up it.

I pulled 70 mpg (FCD) coming home. Driving around in PW got me the usual ~45 mpg.

Then, a usual mix of commutes after that. But one day, it was only about 20F, so that hurt things. And a day of no work (dental issues) with some local trips also brought the numbers down.

There also are these three things:

1) High average speed. Usually the tank avg is 39-40 mph. Not sure how I ended up at 46. I think I must have changed my driving pattern.

2) some rain

3) IMA battery on its way out. I was getting an IMA light every 1-2 days at the end. I might even have had 2 in one day. Approx 60 mi. after this fill, I changed out the IMA battery for a warranty replacement from Bumblebee.

Aug 7 (approx.) I installed my dash top LED display of battery cooling fan voltage. Around that time, I also shifted to greater use of EOC. Less use of battery sometimes requires more fuel "up front", but there can be a net gain in mpg because the IMA system reportedly is only 70% efficient. In my case with an ailing IMA battery, it's probably even less efficient.

Avg speed for return trip (highway) was 53 mph, much faster than my usual ~40 mph tank average. Actual highway speeds were mostly between 60-70. It's just that I usually drive a lot slower than that on the highway!

I drove about 30 miles on smaller roads in NY with a/c, many hills, stop signs, lights, and traffic. Fuel economy on those local trips averaged about 45 mpg, far below anything I see in my usual travels near home. So I decided to let this NY trip show up as its own low-mpg tank.

Trip up to work the next day (most of which is in the next tank), went fine. About 75-76 mpg on the FCD. So it's not the car, it's the circumstances.

I strongly suspect the volunteer overfilled the tank at TOPS. I saw nothing spilling over, but he may have flooded the evap system, causing a subsequent loss of fuel and/or fuel vapors. Or maybe his ultra-slow fill just filled it higher than I ever do. It was filled at Lakes 4.5 miles prior to the fill at TOPS. Obviously I didn't use 1.401 gallons to drive those 4.5 miles. Lakes guy stopped at the first click, TOPS guy filled very slowly. I guess he was trying to do me a favor.

No, I didn't have a 1200 mile tank. And tank holds only 10.6 gallons (per Honda). I added fuel twice and kept the trip odometer going. This was in prep for the Green Grand Prix. Running the 10% ethanol fuel out of the system, to fill with the max possible amount of pure gas at my first non-ethanol fuel stop. That fill was 8.961 gallons at the last fuel stop in this fill. Done at Stewart's Shop #250 in Duanesburg, NY. Total fill amount here includes 8 oz. Marvel Mystery Oil.

Interesting. Even when this car was spitting fuel into the air, it still got 52 mpg!

Fill includes about .5 ounce of MMO, but I didn't include that amount in the fuel consumption number. It was already bad enough.

Discovered and repaired fuel leak at the usual location for Gen 1 Insights: within the grip area of the clamp holding lines to firewall, passenger side. My friend Rob Bareiss guided, assisted and provided invaluable input based on his many years of experience.

After completing the repair I thought it appropriate to top it up, so the subsequent tank would reflect the new status and not the leak. That turned out to be a good move. The car took 0.51 GALLONS more than the FCD numbers indicated.

I didn't really get 666.8 mi on the tank. I put in 4.505 gallons yesterday and topped it up fully today. Kept the mileage counter going and logged it all as one fill.

FCD fuel estimate has been consistently low. I sometimes smell fuel when driving. Hmmm.....

The prior fill included no MMO. Lean burn behavior got worse and worse as the tank wore on. Instead of holding lean burn at 90-92 % load, it got shaky at 80-82%. I finally decided to fill a bit early, and add MMO again. This time, just 87 octane instead of the previous high test.

I've already driven about 40 mi. on the new fill with MMO. Lean burn is improving. Not yet back to as smooth as things were before I restored the MMO to the fuel.

I dunno, and don't care, whether the MMO is cleaning the EGR valve or the passages, or the injectors, or the LAF sensor (I think that's what it is) or the oxygen sensor. Whatever it's doing, it restores lean burn. I plan on cleaning the passages but this restores lean burn much faster and easier.

FIRST MEASURED/RECORDED FILLUP

At this fillup, I added 4 oz. Marvel Mystery Oil to the fuel tank. First time doing that on this car. MMO label instructions: 4 oz per 10 gallons fuel.

I did my first Insight oil change - also fixed up the underbody front aero panels - shortly before this fillup, at 163,516 miles on the odometer. Mobil 1 full synthetic 0-20, with 6 oz Marvel Mystery Oil included. And a brand new Honda oil filter. Prev. owner had changes done at Honda shop. They used Honda filter BUT they overfilled the oil (or someone did), it was a good 3/4" over the top dipstick mark.
