Trip date Fuel economy Details
2008-02-08 57.4 ROUTE : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway => Roughly 27+ miles ---- NET ELEVATION CHANGE : ~210 feet drop ---- SCANGAUGE "CURRENT" READINGS : 57.4 MPG, 0.5 Gallons, 195 Water Temp Max, 27.6 Miles, 2470 RPM Max, 0.5 Hours, 58 MPH Max, 47 MPH AVG ---- IAT READING : Hot Air Intake led to Input Air Temp readings of around 110+ degrees F. ---- WEATHER(.com) : 71 degrees F, Sunny/Fair, 39% Humidity, 42.5 degrees F Dew Point, 30.05 in. Pressure, ---- TIME : ~12:15 PM to ~12:47 PM, ~30 minutes ---- RECENT CAR CHANGES : Car was tuned up with new spark plugs. This is a good "pre-test" benchmark for when I swap in the pulse-plugs. The EFIE is OFF for the duration of the before/after pulse-plug test. ---- HYPOTHESIS : None. This is typical when the weather is hot/dry and the traffic is NOT moving at full speed. If I had a really slow truck to follow, I think I could have beaten my all time best of 58.5 MPG on this route.
2008-02-27 57.1 ROUTE : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway => Roughly 27+ miles ---- NET ELEVATION CHANGE : ~210 feet drop ---- SCANGAUGE "CURRENT" READINGS : 57.1 MPG, 0.5 Gallons, 209 Water Temp Max, 27.4 Miles, 2077 RPM Max, 0.5 Hours, 59 MPH Max, 47 MPH AVG ---- IAT READING : Hot Air Intake led to Input Air Temp readings of around 115+ degrees F. ---- WEATHER(.com) : 77 degrees F, Sunny/Fair, 22% Humidity, 35 degrees F Dew Point, 30.005 in. Pressure, ---- TIME : ~12:00 PM to ~12:30 PM, ~30 minutes ---- RECENT CAR CHANGES : Denso Iridium plugs installed. The EFIE was ON to make up for bad driving day into the Westside yesterday ---- HYPOTHESIS : None. Just adding more "typical trip" data.
2008-03-10 56.6 ROUTE : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway => Roughly 27+ miles ---- NET ELEVATION CHANGE : ~210 feet drop ---- SCANGAUGE "CURRENT" READINGS : 56.6 MPG, 0.5 Gallons, 198 Water Temp Max, 27.5 Miles, 2106 RPM Max, 0.5 Hours, 61 MPH Max, 48 MPH AVG ---- IAT READING : Hot Air Intake led to Input Air Temp readings of around 120+ degrees F. ---- WEATHER(.com) : 79 degrees F, Partly Cloudy, 14% Humidity, 25.5 degrees F Dew Point, 30.22 in. Pressure, ---- TIME : ~11:30 PM to ~12:00 PM, ~30 minutes ---- RECENT CAR CHANGES : Pulse plugs installed (http://www.pulstarplug.com/). EFIE OFF ---- HYPOTHESIS : None. Just adding a "typical trip + Pulse Plug" data baseline.
2008-03-24 57.8 ROUTE : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway => Roughly 27+ miles ---- NET ELEVATION CHANGE : ~210 feet drop ---- SCANGAUGE "CURRENT" READINGS : 57.8 MPG, 0.5 Gallons, 202 Water Temp Max, 27.6 Miles, 2130 RPM Max, 0.5 Hours, 58 MPH Max, 47 MPH AVG ---- IAT READING : Hot Air Intake led to Input Air Temp readings of around 115+ degrees F. ---- WEATHER(.com) : 78 degrees F, Sunny/Fair, 21% Humidity, 33.5 degrees F Dew Point, 30.03 in. Pressure, ---- TIME : ~11:30 PM to ~12:00 PM, ~30 minutes ---- RECENT CAR CHANGES : side view mirror downsize (second mirror pending). Dino Oil change 500+ miles ago. Needed to add coolant, so need to watch that for summer. ---- HYPOTHESIS : None. Nice hot dry LA weather. Trying to build up sample data.
2008-04-25 61.2 ROUTE : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway => Roughly 27+ miles ---- NET ELEVATION CHANGE : ~210 feet drop ---- SCANGAUGE "CURRENT" READINGS : 61.2 MPG, 0.4 Gallons, 200 Water Temp Max, 27.5 Miles, 2135 RPM Max, 0.6 Hours, 58 MPH Max, 45 MPH AVG ---- IAT READING : Hot Air Intake led to Input Air Temp readings of around 115+ degrees F. ---- WEATHER(.com) : 77 degrees F, Sunny to Partly Cloudy, 27% Humidity, 36.5 degrees F Dew Point, 30.09 in. Pressure, ---- TIME : ~10:25 AM to ~11:00 AM, ~36 minutes ---- RECENT CAR CHANGES : No recent changes. ---- HYPOTHESIS : Nice hot dry LA weather and a few glorious turtles to follow. Following one super-slow truck helped me on the 105 West, where I typically start falling below 60 MPG on my best runs.
2008-07-29 45.8 ROUTE : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway => Roughly 27+ miles ---- NET ELEVATION CHANGE : ~210 feet drop ---- SCANGAUGE "CURRENT" READINGS : 45.8 MPG, 0.6 Gallons, 204 Water Temp Max, 27.7 Miles, 2572 RPM Max, 0.4 Hours, 74 MPH Max, 57 MPH AVG ---- IAT READING : Hot Air Intake led to Input Air Temp readings of around 140+ degrees F. ---- WEATHER(.com) : 76 degrees F, Partly Cloudy/Sunny, 59% Humidity, 60 degrees F Dew Point, 30.01 in. Pressure, ---- TIME : ~11:33 AM to ~11:57 AM, ~24 minutes ---- RECENT CAR CHANGES : None. This was a deliberate "fast drive" test. The goal was to drive at an average of 70 MPH. This was not possible due to traffic congestion, but it was fun to shake things up a bit for a change. ---- HYPOTHESIS : None. This trip was done for comparison purposes.
2008-10-29 60.8 ROUTE : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway => Roughly 27+ miles ---- NET ELEVATION CHANGE : ~210 feet drop ---- SCANGAUGE "CURRENT" READINGS : 60.8 MPG, 0.4 Gallons, 202 Water Temp Max, 27.5 Miles, 2274 RPM Max, 0.5 Hours, 66 MPH Max, 48 MPH AVG ---- IAT READING : Hot Air Intake led to Input Air Temp readings of around 140 degrees F. ---- WEATHER(.com) : 85.5 degrees F, Sunny/Fair, 24% Humidity, 42 degrees F Dew Point, 30.02 in. Pressure, ---- TIME : ~12:00 PM to ~12:30 PM, ~30 minutes ---- RECENT CAR CHANGES : None. Car running fine, but will need a coolant flaush and oil change in next few days. ---- HYPOTHESIS : I think that because of the Santa Ana conditions (super low humidity), this could have been my best run *IF* I had found a super-slowpoke to follow (within 0.4 MPG of my record!!!!!). I did have 3 slowpokes, but not the "Big Slow Kahuna" I wanted. A slow truck on the 710 South, a cement truck on the 105 West, and an even slower truck full of trees on the 105 West.
2009-01-30 61.4 ROUTE : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway => Roughly 27+ miles ---- NET ELEVATION CHANGE : ~210 feet drop ---- SCANGAUGE "CURRENT" READINGS : 61.4 MPG, 0.4 Gallons, 200 Water Temp Max, 27.6 Miles, 2039 RPM Max, 0.5 Hours, 59 MPH Max, 46 MPH AVG ---- IAT READING : Hot Air Intake led to Input Air Temp readings of around 130+ degrees F. ---- WEATHER(.com) : 74.5 degrees F, Sunny, 14.5% Humidity, 23 degrees F Dew Point, 30.21 in. Pressure, ---- TIME : ~11:15 AM to ~11:45 AM, ~30 minutes ---- RECENT CAR CHANGES : Lots, see http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.php/new-set-denso-iridium-spark-plugs-6920.html ---- HYPOTHESIS : Recent tune-up + hot dry LA weather (Santa Anas). Goldilox traffic (not too pushy) with some strategic turtles along the way. Data points VERY comparable to previous, except even drier. Broke the record in the last 20 seconds.
2009-02-20 62 ROUTE : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway => Roughly 27+ miles ---- NET ELEVATION CHANGE : ~210 feet drop ---- SCANGAUGE "CURRENT" READINGS : 62.0 MPG, 0.4 Gallons, 202 Water Temp Max, 27.4 Miles, 2198 RPM Max, 0.6 Hours, 55 MPH Max, 45 MPH AVG ---- IAT READING : Hot Air Intake led to Input Air Temp readings of around 125+ degrees F. ---- WEATHER(.com) : 67.0 degrees F, Sunny to Partly Cloudy, 30% Humidity, 34.5 degrees F Dew Point, 30.08 in. Pressure, ---- TIME : ~11:50 AM to ~12:25 AM, ~35 minutes ---- RECENT CAR CHANGES : See http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.php/new-set-denso-iridium-spark-plugs-6920.html ---- HYPOTHESIS : VERY Goldilox traffic (not too pushy). Again, very compariable data to previous record. The last stretch on the 105 had traffic density slow enough to allow me to maintain my slower average speed. The irony is that when the traffic forces people to slow down but not go below 30 MPH, I gain MPG.
2009-03-25 61.8 ROUTE : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway => Roughly 27+ miles ---- NET ELEVATION CHANGE : ~210 feet drop ---- SCANGAUGE "CURRENT" READINGS : 61.8 MPG, 0.4 Gallons, 206 Water Temp Max, 27.7 Miles, 2079 RPM Max, 0.5 Hours, 59 MPH Max, 47 MPH AVG ---- IAT READING : Hot Air Intake + dynamic grill block led to Input Air Temp readings of around 140+ degrees F. ---- WEATHER(.com) : 72.5 degrees F, Sunny to Fair, 18.5% Humidity, 27 degrees F Dew Point, 30.045 in. Pressure, ---- TIME : ~11:16 AM to ~11:46 AM (PST), ~30 minutes ---- RECENT CAR CHANGES : I had just restored my rear wheel skirts. They were off for a week or two because I had my wheels rotated and a car wash. I went to an increased oil filter size on my last oil change. I also have a "dynamic grill block" mod that I haven't published yet. ---- HYPOTHESIS : "Good" Goldilox traffic (not too pushy). Bone dry weather. If I had a snail to follow, I think I would have hit my record.
2009-04-06 63.3 ROUTE : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway => Roughly 27+ miles ---- NET ELEVATION CHANGE : ~210 feet drop ---- SCANGAUGE "CURRENT" READINGS : 63.3 MPG, 0.4 Gallons, 204 Water Temp Max, 27.4 Miles, 2892 RPM Max, 0.5 Hours, 57 MPH Max, 47 MPH AVG ---- IAT READING : Hot Air Intake + dynamic grill block led to Input Air Temp readings of around 140 degrees F. ---- WEATHER(.com) : 75.5 degrees F, Sunny, 27% Humidity, 33 degrees F Dew Point, 30.045 in. Pressure, ---- TIME : ~11:30 AM to ~12:00 PM (PST), ~30 minutes ---- RECENT CAR CHANGES : Same as last time. Restored my rear wheel skirts, increased oil filter size, and "dynamic grill block" v2.0 + stiffer springs mod. ---- HYPOTHESIS : "Ok" Goldilox traffic (not too pushy). Bone dry weather at the start, 10% humidity, but 44% humidity at the beach. My atypical 2892 RPM peak happened because I tried to use the Florence off/on ramp on the 710 to stay slow, but I had to accelerate to get in front of truck. High summer weather + good traffic made the mods perform!
2009-08-27 62.1 ROUTE : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway => Roughly 27+ miles ---- NET ELEVATION CHANGE : ~210 feet drop ---- SCANGAUGE "CURRENT" READINGS : 62.1 MPG, 0.4 Gallons, 211 Water Temp Max, 27.6 Miles, 2106 RPM Max, 0.6 Hours, 60 MPH Max, 45 MPH AVG ---- IAT READING : Hot Air Intake led to Input Air Temp readings of around 130+ degrees F. ---- WEATHER(.com) : 92 degrees F, Sunny/Fair, 14.5% Humidity, 37.5 degrees F Dew Point, 30.05 in. Pressure, ---- TIME : ~10:15 AM to ~10:51 AM, ~36 minutes ---- RECENT CAR CHANGES : Car is actually missing rear wheel skirts (me lazy) ---- HYPOTHESIS : None. Just want to reinforce the "good MPG" I get in fire weather. If I had all my aero-mods, this could have been a record. I didn't really have any turtles to follow. Check out that low Max RPM!!!
2009-08-28 65.2 ROUTE : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway => Roughly 27+ miles ---- NET ELEVATION CHANGE : ~210 feet drop ---- SCANGAUGE "CURRENT" READINGS : 65.2 MPG, 0.4 Gallons, 207 Water Temp Max, 27.2 Miles, 2017 RPM Max, 0.6 Hours, 58 MPH Max, 45 MPH AVG ---- IAT READING : Hot Air Intake led to Input Air Temp readings of around 135+ degrees F. ---- WEATHER(.com) : 89 degrees F, Fair/Partly Cloudy, 34% Humidity, 52.5 degrees F Dew Point, 29.94 in. Pressure, ---- TIME : ~11:09 AM to ~11:45 AM, ~36 minutes ---- RECENT CAR CHANGES : Car is actually missing rear wheel skirts (me lazy) ---- HYPOTHESIS : Fire weather. Sad to say, but fires mean high MPG. What is really scary is that the traffic wasn't goldilox. I hit some traffic jams on the 105 West that normally would have killed a good run. However, I had such great MPG leading into the traffic jam that I still beat my old record by 1.9 MPG.
2010-02-16 64.9 ROUTE : 10 West -> 710 South -> 105 West -> 405 South -> Exit Freeway => Roughly 27+ miles ---- NET ELEVATION CHANGE : ~210 feet drop ---- SCANGAUGE "CURRENT" READINGS : 64.9 MPG, 0.4 Gallons, 206 Water Temp Max, 27.5 Miles, 1986 RPM Max, 0.6 Hours, 58 MPH Max, 45 MPH AVG ---- IAT READING : Hot Air Intake led to Input Air Temp readings of around 120+ degrees F. ---- WEATHER(.com) : 78 degrees F, Sunny/Fair 22.5% Humidity, 37.5 degrees F Dew Point, 30.00 in. Pressure, ---- TIME : ~10:40 AM to ~11:15 AM, ~36 minutes ---- RECENT CAR CHANGES : 3 of four wheels covered in plastic racing disks. No rear wheel skirt. Spring loaded front air dam in place but not video-tested. ---- HYPOTHESIS : Warms days + slow goldilox traffic. Very very low humidity. It's amazing to think I could have got my record today in "warm but not hot" weather. BRING ON SUMMER!!!!!!!
