Owner: groar
megane: 1997 renault megane classic
Displacement: 1.9 L
Transmission: manual
Curb weight: 2491 lbs
Coefficient of drag: 0.31
Frontal area: 21.4 sq.ft.
Instrumentation: factory installed
Description: shared car between wife and husband...
1.9dT (turbo)
95hp (68.5kW) at 4250rpm
17.6daN.m (18.3m.kg = 132ft.lbs) at 2000rpm
1130kg (2491lb) - 1.99mē (21.4sq.ft.)
CO2 : 178g/km (guestimated)

Goal : CO2 emissions equivalent to a prius, ie 104g/km which correspond to 3.9l/100 (60mpg) for a diesel; or at least the last version of my car : 117g/km and 4.4l/100 (53mpg).

Note : the FE is the old European test
. Urban : 33.6mpg (7.0l/100)
. 90km/h (55.92mph) : 51.1mpg (4.6l/100)
. 120km/h (74.56mph) : 37.3mpg (6.3l/100)
For EPACombined I use the average of Urban and 120km/h tests : 6.7l/100 (35.1mpg).

Note 2 : the factory installed efficiency instrumentation is only a trip odometer :-(
Current Mods: The nut between the wheels : always ongoing...
. unleading the right foot, ie under speed limits
. staying at steady speeds as much as possible
. moderate accelerations
. DWB (Driving Without Brakes)
. DFCO (Decelerating Fuel Cut Off, ie Engine Break),
replaced by NICE-On Coasting as my ECU may not
do DFCO

Conservatively "Over-inflate" tires to 3.0 bar (43.5 psi), then to 3.2 bar (46.3 psi).
Placard : 2.3 bar (33.5 psi / Renault), 2.4 bar (35 psi / Michelin). Sidewall : 3.5 bar (51 psi).

Right mirror : folded
Radio antenna : folded

New flat hubcaps with around 15% holes. If they don't save gas, they were cheap and I like them better.

First version (cardboard and tape) :
. Lower grill block : done and taped.
Planned Mods: First version (cardboard and tape) :
. Rear wheel skirts : done and taped.
. Front wheel moon disks : done and taped.
Removed both after 600km because incoming rains...
My guestimate is that these 600km were driven at 4.3l/100 (55mpg), previous tank at 4.9l/100 (48mpg).

Failed :
SGII - bought 2008/08/03 on scangauge.net (European WEB site).
It isn't compatible, despite some sites say Renault's diesel from 1997 are ISO and I verified the connectors correspond to ISO.
