Wouldn't it be easier to get custom made earplugs ?

It would not be the safest thing in the world to do. Plus, I routinely dismantle whole cars to do this sort of thing for fun, so it's not really much of a hassle to me. In fact, the car was not even in my driveway for two minutes when I got it home after purchase before I had started removing all of the seats and carpet for cleaning. I like improving things and do it for fun.

A slight update: I picked up more hours this month which changed the economic dynamics of the situation. When coupled with the unrest in the middle east that will likely spike fuel prices, I have decided to keep the car until I get my Super-Metro built out of my 1992 2 door. Instead, I canceled the insurance on my truck as it is no longer registered.

I also did my first true eco-mod! I got two signs from my work that were made of coroplast and cut one up to make a grille block. I installed it today and will see what effect it has over the next few tanks before I pass judgment on it. I sort of doubt it will do much due to the city driven nature of the car. I am also doing a Seafoam treatment right now and will be changing the oil next week. I haven't decided if it will be 0W-30 or 5W-30 though but I know it will probably be with Mobil 1. I'll also be changing to Pennzoil Synchromesh fluid in the transmission at the same time. I am hoping for a 45 mpg city tank in this car and hope this pushes me a bit closer to the goal. I really want a 50 mpg tank but I don't think it will happen until I finish the Super-Metro.
