Cheap high test gas

Been pondering this a while since I saw a chart with different fuels compared, energy and octane rating. Jet fuel, kerosene and diesel are not too different, while regular , mid and high test are lower octane fuels

Tonight I dumped 2 gallons of diesel in with a full rank of regular to see how the truck will respond. It calls for premium, I'll have to find the chart again to figure out how much to mix next time.

Ummm... I'm no expert, but I'm not sure if that is advisable. That might throw the timing of your vehicle off and cause quite a bit of knock. From my personal experience, we used to mix diesel and gas to make burn-can fluid. Too much gas, and the mixture would explode. Too much diesel, and the mixture would drown and put out the wick.

A bit of diesel would increase the octane rating which would reduce knock.

Just checked the msds for octane booster. It is (60-)99% kerosene and up to 5%other ingredients. Basically Diesel fuel

Diesel does not contain octane. It contains Cetane.

Octane = resistance to auto-ignite. The more there is the less likely to auto-ignite. Spark ignition engines need this so that only the spark plug lights the fire.

Cetane = ability to auto-ignite. The more there is the more likely to auto-ignite. Diesel engines need this because they rely on heat from compression (only 600F) to light the fire.

When I was a kid I put some diesel fuel into my dad's car. It wasn't much, but it WAS enough to make is run like crap...AND enough to get a beating.

So I had three fill ups since I started this and notices a significant fuel economy increase. The timing is set to stock- for premium- and I have always used regular. With straight regular I have been getting 10.5 mpg mixed, my last fill up was just over 13mpg, with suggested amounts diesel added (as on octane booster bottle, 2 gallon was way too much)

So overall, I'm going to get a exact measuring device (old octane boost container)and carry some diesel with me in case I need to fill up alon the way. Tonight regular was 1.26/l and premium was 1.41/L. At a savings of 15cent per little, 80 liters I saved $12 in fuel, and with the increased mileage it's even more (still crap)

Heed the warnings about pouring diesel in a gas tank or vice versa. Mercedes recommended adding gasoline to diesel fuel for extreme cold temp operation, but there was a big highlighted warning about pouring one into the other. I think it was diesel in a gas tank but this is ancient memory (1982). The were very adamant about the danger., and I think it is what you are doing (diesel in a gas tank).

I have used and still use diesel in my gas. I have noticed better power and mileage. I use about 10% diesel. I have not had any problems.
