Hydroelectric dam

So my dad has this stream near his house... it's the same stream (in a different location) that I have next to my home site...

My father would love to dig a small pond into this stream, near his apple tree in the yard, for relaxing sound and aesthetics. So what I'm thinking is something like a water wheel... which makes electricity... then that electricity gets used to power a hydrogen generator? This is the part where the idea gets a little weird... I'm not sure how to compress/contain the hydrogen without over-running my power supply capabilities, etc.

I'm thinking though, that I can use the water to generate the power necessary to separate the H2 and the O into components, from the same water that's powering the device. See a problem?

Is there a better use for the energy that would be produced? What else could be done with that small amount of electricity? How could it be fed into the house's electrical system? Could that even be done?

So on, so forth.

Just do a search on "small hydroelectric", "micro hydro", or some similar term. Lots of info out there.
