Pulse and Glide on the Honda CRX

After spending much time trying to make pulse and glide work, and finally figuring out what I needed to do to get better mileage from it, I thought it would be worth making some notes on the subject.

- Pulse and glide doesn't work well at average speeds about 35 mph
- Lean burn complicates pulse and glide immensely, since you get much better mileage cruising than normally, so your pulse mileage is disproportionally lower when compared to cruise
- You can't be afraid of gliding to low speeds, the crx will coast for ages
- pulse and glide can't be done in traffic, people will hate you, deservedly
- at low speeds, nothing is better

Anyway, just some random observations.

That is not an absolute. Some people will hate you regardless, and if you are coming up to a light/whatever and nobody is getting anywhere anyway then it doesn't make any sense to hurry up to the stop that won't be cleared by the time you get there anyway (undeserved).

ok If there's any hills around, I can get away with some pretty good in-town pulsing (in the right lane), or if people can get around like if traffic is light. If there is no-one in the rear view though I will coast it down to 5mph sometimes.

Yeah, I usually don't ever get a long enough stretch of road anyway, but I noticed and learned these things at the green grand prix.
