I'm so cheap I won't even let the local shop do the work. Well I kind of enjoy it. The local shop is a great source for parts though. The auto parts stores will say rebuild kits are unavailable, or if they are, they stick some ridiculous price on 'em. I've done two Tempo starters and an F150 starter and all they needed were new brushes and general clean-up and regrease. The pickup brushes cost $13 and the car brushes were $8!
