you would need both systems, you can still drive verry badly and use way to much gas without going over 80%.
the same way you can drive smoothly and still use too much gas if you go too high in rpm.
ideal would be a system whith a gauge or green orange and red lights that tell you you are going too high in rpm, or either accelerating or braking too fast. and maybe even turning too fast would action the system, avoids big loss of energy and tire wear.
for confirmed hypermilers it would be useless, but it would be a great tool for regular drivers to learn it. would be cheaper than a coach and lessons and just as effective.
