He was demonstrating low speed P&G. In a car that wasn't fully warmed up (in terms of tires/drivetrain - not engine temp), he was able to pull low 80's mpg with an ~18 to ~30 mph spread.
I talked to the Doctor over at priuschat.com and got some sound advice before my highway trip (but I wasn't able to replicate his results). I tried P&G from 67 mph down to 55 mph but my glides weren't able to keep up with my pulses. I'm just not used to doing P&G (above 60 mph) without neutral coast yet. Under 55 mph I use it on my commute to work and it produces great results but staying away from neutral coast at higher speeds to not overspin the motor is the only way you can do it in the Prius...work in progress. On the way home my girlfriend even said "how come you don't use neutral in this car" and I explained the engine overspin at 62 mph+.

I'm doing well with my work commute (not 80 mpg well...but numbers I'm comfortable with). I'm around 60-62 mpg and climbing with city driving...but my highway technique leaves alot to be desired.
