How high your average is isn't really important, it's how it compares to your maximum speed during the trip. If you're covering 3.3 miles in 7 minutes, that's an average speed of just under 29mph. Which is good compared to a top of 40. Higher averages vs. top speeds almost always means better FE.
By contrast, my peak speeds will reach as much as 55mph on some hills, and is closer to 40mph on flat ground, yet my average speed is barely 20mph.
So really, you're doing better than me, despite the shorter drive, and generally colder cycles.
