I had "Crabman" as my online nick for years, because when I first got an e-mail account, I didn't really have anything in mind, but I had pet hermit crabs.
After about seven years with that one, I wanted something a little more personally meaningful. I searched for a while, finally settling on Istas because it means "snow" (winter is my favorite season, snow my favorite weather), it's relatively short (both to type and to say), and it sounds good to my ears (pronounced E-stahs). "Nevada" was a close candidate (meaning "snowy mountains"), but I didn't want to share a name with a state.
Using somewhat selective translation, my real-life name means "Warlike Wedgie". I'm thinking now that that would make a much more entertaining screen name.
Piwoslaw: I see it as the slash through the "l", but I may have some extra character sets installed.
