Arrow Honda Fuel Efficiency Technology

Here are some modern techniques Honda is using for fuel efficiency. Hopefully most of you haven't heard of them.

Honda has long been a FE pioneer, ever since they promoted 4 stroke motorcycles over 2 strokes. Some of their old technology that you all might be familiar with:
  • CVCC
  • Lean Burn
  • IMA (Integrated Motor Assist)

Here is some of their newer technology, found via Temple of VTEC:

1.3l i-DSI (88hp)

  • Smaller than D-Series (4.5" thinner, 2.7" shorter)
  • Roller Bearing Rocker Arms (might be old VTEC-E technology?)
  • Pulverized Molybdenum Piston skirts (reduced sliding friction)
  • Offset crankshaft (old Insight technology)
  • Stainless Steel Exhaust (faster warmup)
  • Oblique Catalytic Converter (faster warmup)
  • Dual Sparkplug + Swirl Action (10.8:1 CR, more compete ignition, intenser combustion)
Claimed FE: 24km/L (56MPG)

1.3l i-VTEC Engine (100hp)

  • Split Coolant Flow Head (reduces knocking)
  • Special Crown Design Piston (reduces knocking)
  • Cracked, One-piece Rod forgings (reduces reciprocating mass)
  • Pattern Piston Coating (reduces sliding friction)
  • Variable Tension Serpentine Belt (reduced low rpm friction)
  • Integrated Cylinder Head Manifold (reduces warm-up time)
  • Resin Valve Cover (reduces weight)
  • Valve Pause (Think VTEC-E, but w/ massive EGR recirculation rather than lean burn)
  • Dual Electrode Spark Plugs (hotter spark)
Claimed FE: 24km/L (56 MPG)

BTW -
D15z1 VTEC-E (92hp)
Claimed FE: 20.5km/L (48MPG)
