Bringing the Vue back in focus

This thread hasn't been added to in a while, so here goes --

I just bought a '02 Vue with a V6 3.0L and an active AWD system. I hooked up my scan guage and wasn't surprised when driving around Madison and only getting about 22 or so in the city. City/Hwy however gets me about 29 mpg driving nicely and about 26 if I am in a hurry.

I also own a '00 SL1 that I have played with to the point where I can easily get in the upper 40s when on the highway. The two most important mods I did were adding a good grill block and having a very hot intake air system designed.

I am planning on trying similar mods on my Vue. The hot air intake will be easy, but has anyone tried it with a similar car?

I am also thinking of building onto the air dam that's in place to force air from underneath up into the engine bay. I am currently thinking of blocking off the access into the engine bay from the air dam and then lowering the dam to block some of the air going underneath the car.

My goal right now is to get this thing close to 35 on the highway. I'm still in the thinking stages and haven't gotten to planning, so suggestions are welcome. This is our "nice" car now, so I don't want to do anything permanent.
