From a chat I recently had online with ericbecky, our very wonderful hybrid fest organizer:

Quote:
21:25:35 Eric Powers: in what way. Unfortunately I am not very in tune with this stuff. All I know is they get me good mileage.
21:25:38 Eric Powers:
21:25:47 Eric Powers: And people say other tires decrease their mpg.
21:26:04 Ben Jones: I just mean if they suck in terms of normal tire considerations, traction, rain, etc
21:27:46 Eric Powers: They seem fine for me... but I mostly drive on 4 lane divided highway and city streets. very little country roads. My insight handles like any small car. if we get 6 inches of snow it goes well as long as I don't stop on ahill. Well, that and the fact that I sometimes let them get very worn down. down to the wear bars.
21:27:57 Eric Powers:
21:28:23 Eric Powers: Peole say they track with the road grooves, but I guess if they doi I never noticed?
21:28:38 Eric Powers: Or maybe there aren't a lot of road grooves near me?
21:29:08 Ben Jones: It's probably the car that tracks with the road grooves
21:29:20 Ben Jones: My car basically drives itself if there are some good grooves in the road
21:29:35 Ben Jones: I'm probably gonna pick up a set of insight wheels with re92s soon
21:30:32 Eric Powers: the insight rims are super light, I know that. some people put civic steel rims with better traction for snow in the winter.
21:30:52 Eric Powers: because most of the roads I drive are clear of snow I never much worried about it.
21:31:16 Ben Jones: Yeah, it's only snowy up in NH where I don't drive anyway
21:31:57 Eric Powers: I drove through a several mile section of snow up to where it was scraping the bottom of my car. Things were fine as long as I never stopped.
21:32:05 Eric Powers: So to me. that's good enough.
21:32:47 Eric Powers: Of course. I should mention that I also run mine at 50+ psi at all times.
21:32:51 Ben Jones: You could provide me with that wrecked insight I need next time you need to stop
21:32:58 Eric Powers:
21:33:28 Ben Jones: I'm going to paste this in my question thread on ecomodder now
