CORRECT! It *IS* a chemical thing. In the same way that people use a cooking spray in the kitchen to prevent things from sticking to the pan, they use a "releasing compoung" when they make tires to be able to pull them out of the mold easier. As that chemical works it's way out of the rubber, the tires firm up.
