Adjusting the nut behind the wheel is arguably the single most effective modification. Mods build on top of that, but efficient driving comes first IMHO (since the cost is NIL). To paraphrase Ron White, you can't automate away stupid

You wouldn't build a race car, then let just anyone random person drive it and expect to win.
