Ok, I just wondered, because I've been told a lot of things by cops that were either completely untrue or alluded to something else that was only true in practice, but not by law.

Unfortunately, it seems like many cops would rather enforce their law than THE law, so it's left to civilians to make sure the officers are kept in line at times. I'm usually the first to point out when a cop is talking out his backside, and replacing his brain with his badge.
